How wicked some people are!!!  I have 4 JRT's  all of whom I adore as they have such wonderful character's, I was told they were snappy ankle biter's but that turned out to be ignorance as my JRT's are my pets who I walk, take on holiday and love to spoil in return for their affection.
We have had all our's from pups and therefore have been lucky to have only minor problems ( settling into their pecking order ),  I wonder what awful experiences this little chap has had, my parents have a rescue JRT and at first she was so shy and would run and run if let of her lead but with patience and care she has become a loving companion even if a little shy.
I wish you luck and let us know how this little fella gets along.

My first one came to me because the man who had her asked my husband how to go about drowning her.

I can give you my experience of two of them but it might be a different one for others.  They can be very wilful and stubborn.  Sue barked all night for 4 nights continuosly when we got her until we allowed her into our bed.  She was there for 16 years.

They are very hardy and tough and love to go for long walks.  Mine were brilliant with the kids and were 5 and 4 before they had any contact with them.  They are not scared of any dogs so you have to watch them as they tend to pick on big dogs.  Sue never had one fight as most dogs run away from her.  They are a big dog in a small body.

Yours might obviously have a few problems as she had been beaten so I really wish you luck.  They are a lovely breed who do get a lot of bad press.

My in-laws have a gorgous JRT called Joe and he is so friendly, he loved all kids and other animals and is a right little character.
I used to have a JRT cross called susie, she was adorable to but a little bit of a barker sometimes.
They adore long walks and can go for miles and miles without even looking tired!

hi have jack russel called rocky he is briil with the kids with the other dogs ive got and with my nephews he good with other dogs when we are on walks. he can be a bit stubborn sometimes and refuse to come in he can also be a bit timid sometimes but not very often. he never hardly barks and i dont think ive heard him growl once he loves to play rough with my staffy and sometimes gets the better of her! i think if you just show youre jtr love and affection and be patient it will all work out.

I do hate to say it, but I absolutely detest JRT because of my grandma's one called Mistroe...I'm sure that they are not all like that. But look after him and keep him on the lead until you know what he is like, and the top of the list would be a check up to the vets to make he is alright!

People just have to remeber that they are Terriers and not lap dogs.

I should try and tell my parents that their rescue JRT is not a lap dog, she loves nothing more than to sit on my mums lap of an evening while mum watches the tv even though she has a chair of her own,  all my jacks sit on my lap but only if it suits them to do so,  I just think these dogs are subject to a lot of ignorance and bad press after all almost every breed will have an exception to the rule temprement wise.

Funnily enough most of the JRs I've known have loved being on someones lap for as long as possible! (my own included) Its the times that they are not on your lap that they are trouble! ;-)

They are great type of dog, but there is a huge variation of type and temprement within them.

My own is relatively obedient and has little in the way of hunting instinct or aggressiveness. I'd suggest that if you can get one with the right temperament to suit the owner there is no better pet. If the temperament doesnt suit the owner then they're probably one of the worst!

Must admit I didn't mean Lap dogs literaly as I have five rather large Lapdogs myself.  What I meant was that they are often bought as an easy toyu breed by sedentary soft natured people, often as a playmate for the kids.  As they are a working breed they need pletny of excersise trainign and appropriate dicipline,a dn it has to be remebered that they have quick reactions being used to kill vermin, so often react first to danger or perceived threat.

Staffie, I think that my grandma spoils her JRT, I walked him on christmas da, i had to lift him up because he doesnt like other dogs, and there were 2 dogs coming towards up, 2 behind me and one in the gate beside me, and i was beside a car, I went to pick him up and he tried to bite me...he got such a telling off! I was shouting like a mad woman.
Despite this, I am sure that JRT's can be perfectly good pets if not spoilt.
Good luck bordercollielvr with the JRT

My two were not so much lap dogs as bed dogs.  If they knew it was raining they just used to stick their nose out of the duvet then go back under.  Got to say that neither of mine were from working lines so were a right pair of spoilt brats.  They did make excellent mice killers ;)

I have 5 JRTS and they are all individuals and well loved and looked after.  They are the bigger then the biggest dog in a small body.  They will take on anything.  If mum or dad are holding them, then they are even more confident as they have your backup.  You think you will teach them but actually they teach you to do what they want.  I wish you good luck and hope you both have a happy life together.  Oh yeah, when off the lead, if they are busy doing what you do not want them doing and you call them.  You find they get selective deafness......
