Hi Folks,

Has anyone experienced side effects with Galastop?

My bitch is on her third phantom - she's had Galastop before to dry up her milk and she's been fine with it.  This time around she doesn't seem to be producing milk but has the usual baggy undercarriage.

Vet prescribed Galastop again for six days (she's just finished her dosage today) but she's gone from eating like a horse to being very picky and hardly eating anything.  She's been back to the vets today and they have taken a blood test (get the results back tomorrow), her temperature is normal though.  She has also gone extremely stroppy since the being given the Galastop.

Anyone has similar experiences?

Not exactly the same, but years ago , soon after Galastop came on the market, I gave it to one of my girls with a phantom, and she was very sick and ill afterwards, with projectile vomiting.  Never used it since.

Hi Jo,

Many thanks for the reply.

Certainly don't think I would use it again.  Grace's main problem is her bagginess in phantom and it's a devil to tighten her up.

She was very abnormal and the vets and getting quite aggressive with other dogs which isn't her at all.  I think that this phantom could be worse as I have a new puppy (4 months old now) and she was on her toes because he was with her (odd girl that she is - she was like a lamb when she went last week!).

Oddly enough she seems to be getting back to normal tonight - think its because she doesn't want to go back to the vets!

After Foggy had her litter this year I took her swimming as often as I could in the hydrotherapy pool.   It tightened her up a treat, and she looked really good for Crufts.

Hi my wee lhasa apso was giving galastop about 4 or 5 weeks ago for a phantom she was sick first few days then she was brill  but my vet suggested having her spayed as i was not intending to breed her. I found that during the phantom she just wasnt herself at all she became very tired and a little bit nippy and she also had that baggy undercarage underneath, but now she has been spayed and she has a new lease of life and back to her usual sweet little self. I know some people feel if its not broken why fix it, buti really feel ive done the right thing in getting her spayed i wouldnt want her to have phantom pregs after seasons.

simple answer, stop breeding and get her spayed, there is enough unwanted animals

My girl is nearly 5 now and has had phantoms all through her life. She has had two lovely litters but the time has come to get her spayed and relieve her of this awful problem. She is thoroughly miserable with these phantoms and becomes aggressive towards her own pup and my other doggies. Not a pleasant thing at all for her go go through. Was hoping to get her spayed last year but the phantom went on so long that it wasnt possible. Hopefully this time have caught her in time. She is on Galastop and has been very tired, very narky and has milk but hopefully we have caught her in time and a month from now she will have her op and wont have to suffer these things again. Some girls have mild symptoms but others, like my lovely girl, really suffer and the only way out of it, for their sake is to get them spayed.

The OP never mentioned breeding at all.  It could  be that they don't want her spayed if they show her, in case of any weight gain or change in coat.

The remark is unwarranted.
