Hi, my sister is thinking about importing two Alaskan Klee Kai from America. I have been told that they suffer from bad health problems and that defects are very common at birth. Is this true??? Or is the chance of defects/health problems on average the same as most breeds? I would very much appreciate your comments as my sister has researched the breed but as its a new breed, there isn't much to go on. Also i have read on this site that they may be recogniced by the KC soon. Is this true?
Many Thanks. :)

I doubt very much that they are close to KC reg...they are not even recognised bu the AKC.

There are quite a few Klee Kai in the country now I believe. Unfortunately I don't know their health problems, but some of the breeds that make up this breed do sometimes have problems with their young. Let's face it though until every breed and non-breed is tested who are we to call breeds that are looking into the health problems? I'm sure that every breed if it were tested would have some health problem. Don't we as humans?
Hi, thanks for your replies. I thought that they were prone to any health problems that most breeds can suffer with. But apparently there is an extremely high rate of cleft palates, way above normal, and intestinal problems. Just wasn't sure if this is true.
