Im really really annoyed!
In the space of 12 hours my Staffy was attacked twice!!! By dogs off the lead!
On Saturday night Ron and I were having a quiet walk in the park, as normal there were other dogs there so I was responsible and kept him on the lead, may I add he is NOT dog aggressive, out of nowhere he was jumped on by a boxer who attacked him, the owner ambled over and didnt even apologise!! Luckily I was able to get Ronnie to leave and we went staright home to look for wounds!
The next morning I took ROn out again, again on the lead and a women approached with two Ladbradors!!! " DOn't worry they are friendly" she shouted making no effort to restrain her dog as it bounded over growling and again jumped on Ronnie...luckily and to maybe teach the stupid woman a lesson her dog came off worse GOOD! is what I say! Might teach her to keep her dog under control.
Why is it if a Lab a Boxer a spaniel are off lead no one bats an eye lid but I can't let my two off because they are perseved to be aggressive????? which they aren't why is it one rule for them and another for us Staffy owners!
Im fed up of peoples attitudes to Staffs!!

One, it's not good her dog came off worse. THAT IS WHAT GIVES STAFFIES A BAD NAME!!!!!!! I for one would not be happy, Labs are boistrous, and sometimes other dogs see this as a threat and need to protect themselves. I hope you get the vet bill for the lab!
Secondly Staff have a bad reputation. ou dog doesn't, the breed does. they where used in fighting and there are many around who ARE dog aggressive. They where made to eyeball in the ring (ok past few years they haven't I know) You should have been aware that the breed you have choosen has a bad name among the GP and you will get looks etc.
HOWEVER people should also have the sense to see that if another dog is on the lead, the reason could be because it's agresive, or even if that dogs see's the others a threat, it can't flight because it's onlead so can only fight.
Staffies have a bad name unfortantly and labradors don't, boxers used to but not anymore as much. Theres nothing stopping you letting your dog off the elad, unless you don't trust him?

i think this is disgusting as a staffie owner myself i always keep her on her lead when out walking more for my piece of mind than anything else but what shocks me is the attitude of ice queen if it was the other way round and the staff atacked youre dog you would be screaming out for something to be done but as it was the lab that attacked the staff then that seems ok!! any dog owner should be responsible for there dog on a lead wheater it be a small breed wich in my opinion seem to be the worst for snapping and atacking other dogs to the biggest breed if the owner is unsure when it approachs other dogs they should take responsibility and put them back on there lead i bet if we all started to complain when any kind of dogs attacked oure dogs most of the other breeds of dogs would get a bad name like staffy have!
Ron is only a puppy! he bent down in a play stance and the lab growled and grabbed hold of the back of his neck, he pinned Ron to the floor and they started rolling aropund biting and grabbing.
I WAS THE RESPONSIBLE ONE!!! IF HE DOG WAS BOISTROUS AND AGGRESSIVE THEN IT SHOULD BE ON A LEAD!!!!
How dare you make a comment like that! IOTs people like her and yourself that give Staffies a bad name!!!
My dog has never been aggressive in his life, he goes obedience training and has his good citizens award, he has been socialized well as a pup and loves other dogs, the ONLY reason I keep my dog on a lead is because I know other owners are nervous of Staffies so before I let him off I always approach them and ask first!! RESPONSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OWNER!!!!!!!!!
THE LAB ATTACKED HIM NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND AND IF SHE GIVE ME A VET BILL I WOULD TELL HER TO SHOVE IT WHERE THE SUN DOESNT SHINE!!!!!

well said blondiflops it really gets my goat when other dog owners start to accuse all staffy owners of having aggresive dogs and if i was you and the labs owner sent me the vets bill i would stick it where the sun dont shine aswell i wish people would just leave us responsible staffy owners alone and let us get on with oure walks in peace :)

If you don't like the truth go and find a hole!!!!
NO-ONE should EVER boast about the "other dog coming of worse" It's not good, it's bad. I myself have a dog who has not got the best temprement around other big male dogs, many times he get attacked (proberbly because he is giving off a sent) But NEVER, if he hurt a dog would I say it's good, even in retaliation. I NEVER take any nonsence from my dog. One of my other dogs got attacked and only snapped back, didn't harm or anything, he got severly told off and pinned against the wall. Everyone said it wasn't his fault and I said "I know but I won't tolerate that behaviour" I don't care if it's in retaliation or for any other reason. No dog should harm another dog, I would NEVER be please about my dog harming another dog.
BTW one of the above mentiond dogs also has done his obedience and has done extreamly well in his showing career. All my dogs have done their GCDS doesn't mean they are angels.
So its wrong to defend yourself?????????
Should he have laid down and let the Boxer or the Lab rip him to pieces????
So me and my dog are having a nice Sunday morning walk and we get attack and now its MY fault!!
You talk TRIPE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wasn't pleased the dog was worse off, he wasn't punctured or bleeding he more got the fright of his life as he realised my little boy wasn't a push over! Might teach them both a lesson.

You where still boasting about it, no it shouldn't have happend, but you shouldn't have boasted about the other dog coming off worse.
If you think I talk tripe, so be it, I KNOW I talk words and what I believe, I never said teh attack was YOUR FAULT. I just don't like YOUR attitude about it.

I see it as MY role to protect my dogs, I don't leave it up to them to judge.

''One of my other dogs got attacked and only snapped back, didn't harm or anything, he got severly told off and pinned against the wall'' quoted from icequeen
i really hope this is not the way u treat ur dogs! i was quite disgusted by this reply, if this is what u do to ur dogs when they misbehave? sorry if i have read wot u have typed wrong. But if not, im suprised no one has picked up on this!
i totally agree with blondeflops chill deep breaths! in hale exhale, inhale exhale! do you feel better yet!:d

I've only just caught up with this, but as far as I can see (please correct me if I'm wrong :D ) IQ wasn't complaining that your on-lead dog bit the labrador, just that you seemed
pleased that he had. I too thought that was an unusual remark from someone I thought was a sensible person. Perhaps you were just angry still and didn't mean it to sound the way it did.
:)
you're wrong Ice Queen, what gives Staffie a bad name is a Staff attacking another dog for no reason caused by its owner not raising it properly
A Staff retaliating or defending itself is called nature and most dogs would do that in a fight situation. I think Blondiflops is annoyed because she has the 'dangerous' breed but she is responsible and her dog is well reared and yet hers gets attacked, not once but twice!! I think we'd all be annoyed and say things in the heat of the moment. I feel sorry when any dog is hurt and would be devastated if mine hurt another one even in self defence because ultimately the situation was probably avoidable. The call us the superior race, I dont think so !!

Hang on, I'm the one here who's not in staffs so can see from other points. Blondiflops attitude has left me wondering about staff people now, do they care? Luckily I know enough staffs and staff people not to think all owners would be "HAHA your dog came of worse shame on you" That attitude is totally unexceptable!
Am I pleased that my dog wasn't maimed or killed! Damn right I am!!
The words RESPONSIBLE, CONSQUENCES AND ACTIONS COME TO MIND!!
I do care if another dog is injured but if that dog is aggressive and attacks my dog then I know where my priorites lie and that is to the safety and wellbeing of my dog!
Who said anything about ha ha!! ???? Can you read.....what I said was luckily the other dog came off worse and that my INNOCENT DOG wasn't badly injured!
The only blood that was drawn came from Ron!! He eventually pinned the other dog down to get it off him! and may I add the Lab was about 5 times the size of him!!!!

and I quote "luckily and to maybe teach the stupid woman a lesson her dog came off worse GOOD!"
sounds to me you where pleased, what I said was how that could sound. You know damm well that if your dog hurt another dog it would be put down without much question because it is a staff (unfortantly) The "safe" breeds don't have a bad name, but staffs do. I was most upset when i read asbout a staff attack in my town, not because a puppy got hurt, but because staffies don't need bad publicity or do they need bad temprements in the breed.
BTW yes I can read, I can also read a dogs language normally and can see if a dog will attack, allowing myself to get my dogs under control.
I thik you need to read what you wrote and see how it can sound.
I never said the others where in the right but I did say your in the wrong for boasting
I wasn't boasting, Don't you understand that sometimes the ONLY way people will change there attitudes is when something actually happens...
Now she might think in her little bubble world " OH I see another dog I'll put mine on a lead because I don't want it or the other dog to get in a SITUATION"
My dog was under control he was on a short LEAD!!!!
i rearly dont think blondeflops has an attitude! im sorry but obviosley i dont know you personnally but your posts dont make you look like a nice person.i think you should watch the way you speak to people its not very nice iq!:(

If you don't like the way I speak the tough basically. I'm not going to change. I never said I was a nice person, I leave it up to others to decide. I speak my mind, I will say things to people, I won't go mumbling behind peoples back slagging people off. Only the otherday was I talking to a friend about how people don't like people who tell it how it is. I would quite happily say what I have said to anyone as I don't feel what I've said is wrong. You may disagree, but at the end of the day, I don't give a &*%$
I'm only stating how I feel. Like I have said, I don't have a problem with staffs, I have dogs that don't have the best temprement.
Now who has the attitude......
;)

Never said I didn't!
you rearly do suit your name dont you! i think you do care wat people think.but there is a way off saying how you feel without offending people iq!

Why do you think I got given the nickname?
And yes thank you I do care what people think...

My staffie can be a bit off with some other dogs so I allways keep her on the lead when out.
I have had quite a few dogs off lead come up and challenge her though.
1 was a small terrier pup, he only wanted to play but was biting her ears & neck & just hanging there!
It took me all my strength to get this puppy off & stop blue biting it :-(
In the end blue caught it with her head & sent the poor thing flying, it looked stunned for a while, then ran back to its owner with its tail between its legs :-(
The owner started shouting at me - that my dog should be muzzled?!!

i must admit that sounds like my meg, shes only a mini dacs so people laugh wen she tryes to have a go! but 1ns wen she got off her lead( the lead the preavious owners clasp was broke didnt know till got out so got new 1) and attacted another dog on a lead so i ran over and got hold off her.i couldnt appolojise enough but the man just laughed! little dogs seem to get confidence wen they see a dog on the lead.any dogs off the lead and shele run a mile! it wasnt your fault you had your dog on a lead its up to him to keep an eye on his dog! and wat does he expect for your dog to put up with his dog hanging off yours! x
i dont think staffs are all that bad, some are but most ive met arnt, just like any dog you can get bad 1ns.its the pitbull and pittbull crosses you have to watch out for.after all they are banned for a reason! im yet to meet 1 thats ok with another dog and there quite a few by ars! i think some people confuse them with staffs as there do look simler! x blondeflops ive pmd you!

We had this discussion yesterday when walking ours.
Ours are also dog freindly but as we were in a huge park and Libbys recall is not 100% we keep them on the leads but the amount of people who leave their dogs offlead to annoy ours is amazing.
For all these owners know mine may both have been on lead due to aggression yet they still leave their dogs to pester mine
>>>One, it's not good her dog came off worse. THAT IS WHAT GIVES STAFFIES A BAD NAME!!!!!!<<<
Yet it was ok for the boxer to attack Lisas dog and it doesnt get a bad name ?

As far as I was aware their where no wounds made from the boxer. and if the boxer does it on a regular occastion then YES it will get a bad name. However boxers no-longer have the generalisation of dog aggressive.
Maybe I also didn't make it clear enough. I was not only commenting on lab comming off worse but ALSO the owners attitude of "good" NO its not good, It's bad, the staffy (with already a bad reputation, that is slowly getting better) does not need to be wounding other dogs.
I'm not saying the other dogs attacking is right and staffy is wrong but if this staffy has punctured the skin of another dog then it is not good, I'm sorry but staffies have a bad name, they don't need owners saying its good their dog wounded another dog.

BTW before anyone says, I'm not against staffies, the few I know are lovely temprements and the owners are also good and don't let their dogs wound other dogs!

I think most dogs will retaliate if attacked whatever the breed :(
Its good manners to put your dog on the lead if someone is passing with their dog on the lead unless you KNOW yours will not be a nuisance which clearly these owners should have done but did not :(
I totally agree with you Blondiflops. I too get annoyed with my Akita. Shes always on lead, soft as a brush never shown aggression to othe dogs when out. Alot of owners of dogs such as yorkies a jrts think its ok ok to let their small dogs come running over jumping around her snapping, of which my dog is scared. Its funny to them but what would happen if my dog retalliated. Obviously shed be the 1 to blame cause of her size. Ive even asked owners to get their dog with the usual reply of oh its ok it wont hurt her when myu dog is upset by this.
So am I a terrible owner?
Last night when my two went out for their last wee before bed unbeknown to me a big dog had got into my garden.
I heard growling so opened the back door and this ginger thing was trying to mount Hollie (spayed) and Raffie didn't like that and attacked him.
It was bloomin pitch black, 11.40 at night and there was me screeching to get them apart.
Raffie has never so much growled at another dog before.
I have no idea if the other dog is injured because it hotfooted it back over the wall as quickly as it had appeared but Raffie does have a scratch on his back leg.
This other dog is a roamer....if I see him again I will be phoning the dog warden.

Hi, i have 2 staffords,a dog and a bitch, both are fine with other dogs and people, i keep them on a lead when other dogs are about , the reason being ,i have the same problem MINE get attacked and then mine dive to the floor very submissive! but i still get the "tuts" as if my dogs have done something wrong! This happens frequently Also other peoples dogs loose off the lead " oh dont worry he or she is fine with other dogs" then when it has shown aggression towards my dogs......... "ooops im sooo sorry he or she has never done that before!" and the other reason i put my staffords back on a lead when i see people coming is that my dogs are very very friendly and fussy and cant resist jumping up at people for attention! and winter in the woods is not a good time to let dogs muddy other peoples clothes , not everybody has a dog with them ,sometimes they are just out for a sunday stroll in the woods. My mother in law had a yorkie that was a nightmare to walk it would have had a "go" at anything!! (couldnt ever let it off a lead,) the bigger the better! it also was very good at hiding behind the settee running out and giving you a bite on the ankles!! But that doesnt mean ALL yorkies are the same!

Pitbulls were banned in 1990 and ordered to be neutered, so any you see would have to be very ancient indeed and on lead and muzzled. this is exactly why Staffs have a bad reputation as people think they are the saem as Pitbulls, and any wonder when you see some of the strange crosses and bacly bred ones (exactly the effect some of theri breeders were hoping for). :(

blondiflops this happened to me years ago my staffy was picked on by a dog that lived next to the park.i had to pick her up for months when she was a puppy and carry her away from the other dog.the owner thought it was funny.one day when she was around 1 year old the other dog ran over and tried to bite my dog before i could do anything my dog pinned the other collie dog down and bit it several times .after my initial upset i was pleased yes pleased that she had stuck up for herself.
the other owner after that kept his dog on a lead.no more problems for me.
i later found out the other dog terrorised most dogs in the park much to the owners delight.
if another dog comes to you and causes a fight its the other dogs owners fault for their dog instigating the situation and they deserve a vet bill. it may cause them to think twice before they let their dogs off the lead.although i feel sorry for the other dog as realy its not their fault its bad ownership and training that caused the problem in the first place.
Thank you!
Im so angry Im shaking!!!
Ron has a big gash up his belly where he was scratched! But its ok he's a staffy!
Im totally fed up with peoples attitudes!
If I see a dog coming I always put my dogs on a lead because Staffies make some people nervous and I respect that so I try to introduce my dogs before I let them off....other people because their dogs are a so called "safe breed" don't bother and just let their dogs off willy nilly!
Some people have to learn the hard way, maybe this stupid woman will think twice before letting HER dogs run wild!

Well said!
Although I was upset when blue caught the pup with her head as I thought she could of really hurt her - I was quite pleased to see it scuttle back to the owner with its tail between its legs!
I am so pleased it was not hurt but it may have been taught a lesson - so may the owner who I hope now keeps the dog on a lead.
I did my best to hold my poor staffie down while this little terrier was biting her, but its not very fair is it?
I for one would not like to be held down & stopped from defending myself while someone else could bite me!
As long as it was not seriously hurt it serves the little bu**er right!
Jo

Thank you Jo!
The thing that bugs me is if it were the other way round peoples attitudes would be different.
I don't understand why people can't keep their dogs on a lead and then if its agreed between the owners that they have a play then thats what you do.
What is it they say once bitten twice shy, it may make the biters think twice.
What if my dogs is traumatised by the whole thing? What if he thinks every dog who approaches is going to attack him..... he's only a baby and is still growing and developing these peoples inconsiderate behaviour may now make my little boy nervous and weary of other dogs.....:)
i wouldnt worrie about it the magority agrees with you blondeflops :d ! you know wat its like on here theres always 1! x

Well said, Tommielfc!!
Thank you..
:) Well said Tommielfc and thank you all for your support! :)

blondiflops, i totally agree with you if people can not take responsiilityfor there dogs then they can not complian when things go wrong. i have the same trouble with my boxers people will cross the road and give you dirty looks all the time. if i see people out in the park i will always put mine on the lead as onr of mine has a bit of an atitude with other dogs.what gets me mad is when people see you put yours on a lead but dont put thers on a lead. then they give you greif because there dog runs up to yours ,then yours snaps. or they say its alright he`s friendlyonly wants to say hello, if they can`t control there dogs they should keep them on leads. its only common courtesy after all.
My wife lived the same type of situation recently. My wife and daughter went to walk our two dogs. We have a two year old female rottie and a three year old male lab/golden mix. Both our dogs are always on leash when not at home, work, or at the local dogrun. Suddenly my wife and daughter are charged apon by a great dane who is off leash. My wife just had time to take both leashes ..... our daughter is only 11 and could not have controlled 100lbs of dog.
Needless to say my dogs protective instincts kicked in and if it wasn't for the fact that my dogs are fantasticly trained things could have been worse. My wife hurt her back badly and was bedridden for days. Luckly no dogs were hurt in the fight, yet things could have been worse. The owner of the great dane started to yell at my wife about not being able to control our dogs on leash! WE WERE THE RESPONSABLE ONE'S ! Our dogs are on leash! They were responding to what they perceived as a threat to my wife and child. Why are idiots walking around with any dogs off leash! If something worse would have happened the headline would surely have read " Rotwieller attacks in local park" The downside is that they now react to almost all dogs when at the park. This very avoidable situation has left a mark on my dogs. Also my wife is now scared to walk the two dogs at the same time.
Unfortunately many breeds have unfair stereotypes. Ask your vet which dogs tend to bite the most.... my vet will tell you it's the little spoiled bichon or poodle. You never hear about these bites in the media because it just doesn't do as much damage as a large breed. Also most people with larger breeds have no problem telling the dog a plain and simple "No" . Don't bite, don't jump up on people, be a good dog.... yet many people don't realise that their little maltese can turn into a " food processor " if allowed to do as it pleases. How many people realise that the instincts breed into thier cute little shetland make for a high strung dog that is easly spooked and can react by biting if not well socialized and trained.
It boils down to RESPONSABLE OWNERSHIP no matter what the breed. The problem is rarely the dogs........ I do hope that your puppy is well and wont fear all dogs....... keep smiling!

God here we go again! It's so unfortunate that 'some' people have a pre conceived notion about Staffies. As responsible staffie owners, which we sound like we all are, we need to try and expel the myth that they are all aggressive dogs.
Blondiflops I agree with you completely, my girl was attacked by a dippy dalmation (off its lead) to the cries of 'oh it's ok he's perfectly friendly' being shouted by the equally dippy owner! Not so friendly when it's trying to wrap it's nashers round my girls neck!!
Its so sad that you've had another bad experience with other supposedly 'safe' dogs. But then I'm at fault there I guess for distinguishing between 'safe' and 'unsafe'!
I wish that people wouldn't look at them in such a funny way, as if they're monsters almost, it's just sad. If I thought for one minute that my girl was dangerous, I wouldn't have her!!! I have a child, my dog comes into contact with other dogs and children and therefore I have a responsibility as an owner to ensure that my dog doesn't cause any harm to anyone. But more than that I have a responsibility to my dog, to protect her and her reputation......
Blondiflops, respect goes both ways, and people seem to think that they have a god given right to be arsey about staffies. You're the responsible one, so good for you!

ok as you all know,im very wary of staffs! but id never let any of mine go up to staffs that are on the lead ,actually theyed not be allowed to go up to any staffs on or off the lead UNLESS i spoke to the owner first & was happy theyed be ok.
however if they did go up to an on lead staff & attacked it ,then that would be my fault.
& if they went up to an on lead staff & the staff attacked them ,that would still be my fault , as as far as im concerned the owner is being responsible.
im more concerned about blondiflops dogs becoming aggressive as a result of these attacks :(
Me too Michelle and as you know I've posted on here before recently about approaching people and talking to them before I ever let my dogs off.
Im being responsible, its a shame other people aren't.
What happens now if he thinks any approaching dog is going to attack him, how do I condition him out of it???
This happened on Saturday night and Sunday morning, thank fully yesterday when walked he was fine but its now a worry...

the thing is that you could end up suffering from it. i think you are responsible & a good owner for the breed.
flynn was attacked by a GSD when 16weeks old,not badly but it was scary. later in the park i found a nice dog that would play with him & the next day he met some GSD friends,as i really didnt want him to have a phobia about the breed.
if i was you id try to find a friendly boxer & lab for yours to have a talk too,& a controlled play.
