Wish I was a Tax man.
How do you lot get away with not paying tax .
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.03.05 22:35 UTC
Because we spend more money than we get back in puppy sales :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 27.03.05 22:45 UTC
We don't. All income over the exempted level is taxed.

i dont breed ether but i never new you have to pay tax on breeding!
- By Daisy [gb] Date 28.03.05 10:37 UTC
You have to pay tax on ANY income (assuming that you already pay tax, or that the income is over the personal allowance) :) Income from breeding (or any other 'business') means after allowable expenses

My husband read somewhere the taxman is clamping down on breeders so we have kept a record of all vets bills, food bill and all other expenses concerning the dogs.  If there is any profit to be made then I would love him to show me where.  On the litter maybe on the upkeep of the mother for the puppies to come from never :)

I doubt whether the tax man would be too interested in people who have the odd litter :) What they would be interested in is people who have several litters a year, every year :) Much more money to be made from that, particularly if little is done on health checks and veterinary care :(

Just out of interest- how can the tax man prove anything on unregistered litters though? :(
- By Daisy [gb] Date 28.03.05 14:51 UTC
They only have to prove that you have sold the pups - advertisments in local papers, journals, newspaper shops etc. Doesn't matter whether they are registered or not. You would be surprised as to where the tax man looks to see what 'work' people are doing :)

If the Inland Revenue wants to tax a breeder on their "income" from puppy sales, they have to do this in the context of treating dogs as your "business." They then have to take into account expenditure as well as income and the vast majority of occasional hobby breeders would end up, like us, with a significant deficit rather than a profit. We were quite grateful to the vindictive pillock who "reported" us to the IR. We ended up getting a refund! There is some justice!!! VBG

I do the same for the same reasons, as if I did have any problems I could at least have some idea of my more obvious outgoings.

I think this is a stupid question, full of assumptions and no fact.
- By Fillis Date 29.03.05 12:20 UTC
And probably yet another Troll - they are getting SO boring
