Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Getting new puppy - need advice!

We have a two and a half year old female schnauzer and now - yippee - we are getting a boy puppy middle of April.  I just wanted advice on how to bring him into our home without upsetting our dog now.  I know to make a fuss of her at all times, to involve her and not to leave them alone for a little while but how about the actual introduction?  She's quite jealous, and she has various things that he will not be able to play with (a beloved smelly woolley jumper that she frantically stuffs in her mouth and sucks before she goes to sleep, a rawhide bone, half gummed to death...etc) - any advice welcomed, I want to try and make this go smoothly!

Hi jodenice

Just a little advice....I would take your  2+ female to meet the new puppy outside so she accepts the boy outside for the start before taking him in.

When Lastar came from  Spain my friends met me at the local park because I felt that Anton moght be jealous, it worked brilliantly.

Plus she will be able to boss him & bully(in a normal bitch bullying dog way)

Please do not intervene if they have a spat unless it(very unlikely)it getting serious. My GSD hates(she's a rescue)other big/medium sized dogs(& she means it)but with puppies & small dogs she is totally different, they are allowed behaviour that she would react to with other dogs & when she has had enough she tells them off & walks away

Your bitch amy very well surprise you !
