Hi as far as i know the life span of a collie is 12yrs depending on health i had a collie and she lived till 12 and she was about the height of a german shephard, also they are very good with children they are a very loving dog,i have to 6mth old blue merle border collie boy dogs now and there tempremant is fantastic they are very loving and so friendly and they are excellent towards my 6yr old son hope this helps jen
height and weight vary show type and working type are very different most males are bigger built, Mine are great with kids even though they dont live with them, obviously the kids have to have respect for the dog. Only think is a bored border collie is trouble they have to be kept ocupied or they will ocupy themselves.
Our last border collie lived till she was 15

Hi the breed standard says 21" for dogs, bitches slightly less mine who are all bitches weigh between 15kg and 20kg.Life expectancy can be anything up to 15 -16 years. As for children its like any dog if they are brought up with children who are also taught to respect the dog they can be wonderful.Mine adore my 2 year old Granddaughter but then she is never allowed to poke them or pull them around and they were introduced to her when she came home from hospital. However they had all been socialised with young family members when they were young themselves.HTH
