Hi My 9 year old bassett has been urinating alot and has developed a cough, she also has started to be sick, I have found blood in her urine once recently also. I have visited the vet and after a small fortune they said she was ok?? NO I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!!!
any advice would be really greatful because I have no idea what to do next. I have thought it may be kidney failure but don't know what the outcome would be ???
Please help

Hi Supertramp
Have you been back to the vet since you found the blood in the urine?
It could just be cystitis.
What makes you think kidney failure?
go back to your vet any reputable vet wont charge you for another consultation(mine doesnt) just treatment if it is required sometimes they prefer to do nothing with cystitis but usually that is in female puppies .

But do go BACK if you are concerned can you see a different vet at the surgery?

One of my rough Collies had foul smelling urine a diagnosis took a long time he became ill rapidly vomiting diahorrea and overnight his eyes went yellow and his gums very pale he was rushed back to the vet and she said he had liver and kidney failure kept him in hospital but unfortunately he passed that night all very quickly (three years ago) he was 10 up until then he had been very healthy.
My boy Ross was one of the unlucky ones but if you can get the problem diagnosed quickly there is no reason why he couldnt recover.
