Well, this did slide off the track! I just wanted to saythat my girl is NOT pregnant(sigh...) and btw, here in the USA, Bulldogs are bred by AT exclusively as far as I know!
O.K this is nothing to do with Bulldogs. Does anyone know the reason dogs of any breed Tie. Asked my Vet who said there was no point to the Tie what so ever. Anyone have an explanation?.

All canines tie, to the best of my knowledge - certainly foxes, wolves and dingoes tie and turn (or at least they did on the documentaries I've seen!). Reputedly it gives the sperm longer to get past the cervix, and the turn means the bitch/vixen doesn't have to bear the weight of the male for very long, as well as being in a less vulnerable position.

I would guess it is to cause a vacccum which makes the transportation of sperm more efficient as the bitches reproductive is very long.
As for turning apart from releiving the weight of the dog from the bitch it keeps the mated canines safer, as you have to biting ends if a danger presented itself in the wild as the mating process is prolonged unlike that of most herbivores which is very brief. JMO :D
hi ann, they are not expensive because of the mating, its because they are hard work as they have to be put on the dam every two hours round the clock for at least 3 weeks,so no sleep for the breeders lol, they do not be left alone for a second with mum as she can crush them with her weight,as you may well know its hard rearing any litter and time consuming but with bulldogs its even more so.and no they dont all have breathing problems,i know of hundreds that are like any normal dog, they can also live up to a ripe old age too.tell your friend to do some research into the breed and to ring a few breeders who will be happy to help.
