no not me. My mums Sheltie, gets groomed everyday but he suffers from a crusty poo bottom. Any hints how to resolve this.

Has she trimmed the hair around his bottom?  Has he got runny poos?
- By EMMA DANBURY [gb] Date 23.03.05 09:00 UTC
No his poo is solid. Its all that fur around his bottom.

Then she needs to trim it off.  I would recommend buying the very best hairdressing scissors, unfortunately they will not have a blunt end so she needs to be careful , if the scissors are very sharp they are less likely to pull and put him off allowing it to be done easily.   Trim short around the anus graduating it away longer and longer as you move away that way it won't look too odd when he's running ahead of you :D

Yes you will have to trim, won't be noticably if you make a bad job as tail will cover, If you have ever seen an austrlian shepherds bum, thats why they have a straight (on in my case wonkey :D ) line!!!

It is when you groom and trim in YKC groomer of the year and get 2nd!!! :D

Acctully I enjoy grooming and trimming my dogs and so couple of days before the show I'm happy! :D  But ssssshhhh friends trying to get me into grooming as a job, but I just don't see me grooming all day in a stuffy grooming place!! :D

I use the thinning shears around my wheatens botties, as it makes the "graduation" easier that way (for me, anyway).

Ice queen,

I would be very wary of grooming full-time as a job.  It's one thing to groom show dogs who are looked after and behave well on the grooming table, and quite another to have to groom a dog who hasn't been touched with a brush/comb for 4 or 5 months and won't co-operate  :( :(   I'm assuming that when you show groom you are not dealing with totally scuzzy (matted) dogs and a time limit which is a really bad combination :(

If you do think that it's the job for you, would they give you a chance to try a few days or a week in the salon without commitment??  You never know it may be something you'll really love doing ;)

Please retitle this thread to read "do not read whilst eating breakfast/lunch/dinner" and probably do not read if you are looking for a boyfriend, the last few posts reminded me why this isn't always a good idea!

HI Dill, I'm only used to grooming my own dogs and  friends crossbreed who thinks I'm the best person in the world because I take him liver cake! Like I said, I somehow don't see me grooming full time, to me it's another hobby I do in my spare time with my own dogs.  I might be getting abit snobby here but I'm hoping that in just over a year I can go to uni and get a degree in business management or business computing, not dog grooming!

Think I'll leave the grooming to my friend and I'll just run her business :D ;) which proberly has even more risks!!!!

Good for you Ice Queen :D :D    Nothing snooty about wanting to go to Uni and do what you want to do.

Often something that is fun and rewarding as a hobby becomes a real chore when it's turned into a full time job ;)

Having said that it's something that may help to pay for some fun at Uni - on a part time/self employed basis ;) ;)

Keeping my fingers crossed for you :D
