ive just let my gsp (year old) old, and as usaul observed her, she has had diarrohea for the last few days but i have put it down to the change in water, got bac from university on friday, however just now, the faeces really stank and at the end as she walked away there was extremly bloody mucus.
she was alright in herself this morning, ate her breakfast etc but now shes whinging and whining and doesnt seem to be able 2 get comfy.
i have had problems with her and food, not her not eating it but it suiting her, she use to poo up 2 12 times a day, but now ive finally found a food that suits her and she only goes once or twice a day.
should I take her 2 the vet, or leave her 2 see?
thank you, sarah and keisha

I would take her to the vet she may need something to reduce the inflammation of the gut to prevent serious bleeding, I would also take a stool sample to show him.

Hi Keisha,
Whether she is neutered or not won't have any bearing on this problem. Isabel is right - you ought to seek veterinary advice and a.s.a.p. While reasons for mucus and blood in watery motions is sometimes relatively easily cleared up by your vet there can also be much more serious causes and the fact that your youngster already has a history of tummy problems I personally think you shouldn't hang about at all - please take her today :(
Good luck, let us know how she gets on,
Teri
Hi,
I have a nine week old pup with th same problem and agree with the others about taking her to the vet, it maybe an infection like mine that will need antibiotics to clear it up!!!
She may have got an infection like gastro enteritis or a bad case of colitis.
Which will need vet appointment and medication.
My bitch picked gastro enteritis up from a dog show :(
Someone took a dog to the show while it's housemate was being poorly.....
My bitch was really poorly with it, ended up in on a drip, she was passing pure blood at
one stage of the infection and it took a week or so to get back to normal.
Along with care and medication from the vet.
Please take her to the vet and hope she improves soon.
i have now been allowed to sign in agin(dont no what happened there!), she is absolutly fine now, barking and whining at the builders next door and jumping around playing with all of her toys, just being a normal dog, i am so pleased because everything seemed to happen at the same time, my sisters been in an accident in uganda and has been in hospital and then keisha being ill, ive phoned the vet to inform them , and they said just keep a close eye on her and if it reoccurs bring her in and if it doesnt they will see her in a month for her yearly check.
thanks everyone

Hi Sarah,
What a relief that Keisha is her perky self :) Sorry to hear about your sister though :( Hope all goes well for her too.

I'm very pleased things have settled down at least dogs are spared the worry :)
I hope your sister is doing well too, I once had to have an eye injury treated in a public hospital in Nairobi, it was very busy and sufficiently different to feel alien but the standard of care was great, every thing was in sterile packs and staff were very knowledgable :)
