Topic Dog Boards / General / Okay - Advice Needed for Easter!!
- By Charanda [de] Date 23.03.05 14:04 UTC
We're taking Glazby up to my Mum's on Friday, coming back Easter Saturday.  Now, Mum has a 8yr old Sussex Spaniel bitch and they are a little bit anxious as to how they are going to get on.

Glaz, so far has been fine with most bitches that he has met - he jumps around them but they soon put him in his place!!  I've said this to my Mum however she's still worried.

Is the best way to go about things to let them out in the garden together (Mum has half an acre of gardens so plenty of space) under supervision and let them see what they make of each other?  I think Mum is just worried as Glaz is quite excitable that they'll fight.

I've never seen him fight another dog since we've had him - the worst he does is to try and stand over another dog  but again this is with no growling/snarling.

I'm trying to convince my Mum that it should all be fine and I've told her that I think Jess will put him in his place if he needs it.

Is there anything other advice you can think of to help this meeting go smoothly?  This visit will determine whether or not we can visit them more regularly as we can't leave Glazby at home on his own.

Thanks
Hayley  :o)

How about meeting them at their local park to let the dogs meet and have a play.  Then take them back to the house, letting your parents dog in first a glaz on lead so he knows his place! :)  I'm sure if they have a bitch you will be fine.  Don't worry about it, they will become the best of friends no-worries! :D

I agree, take them somewhere 'neutral' and then bring them to the house together. Dylan gets all excited about people/dogs when they come to the door, but if I just take him outside the front door and then bring him in with the other person/dog he completely forgets about them and goes back to sleep!

good luck, I'm sure it will be fine   :-)
