hi i have just got a mini schnauzer puppy she is 14 weeks old, i.m not sure what to do regards her coat. i have been told to clip it. but some one said i should get it stripprd.. whats the diffrence and which one is best. she is just a pet and i'm not going to show her.. any sugestions? thanks..
Its up to you really - depending on your lifestyle/needs/time.
Clipping is much easier but many will agree it spoils the coat.
Stripping takes a little more effort but once you have it in your routine you will be fine, you should be starting now to get her used to sitting and being stripped, just five mins here and there for the start will slowly get her used to it.
You can get your groomer to strip her if you would rather not do it - i like to do it myself, its easy to do once you know how and is a chance to spend some time with your pet examining their fur and overall health.
Its personal preference really but once you clip the coat you may damage it and it will never be the same again.
I have two miniature schnauzers, one is clipped (poor coat - he doesn't have much wire in it) and the other is stripped. i think a stripped coat looks the business and is easy to maintain once you have a good routine.
I would suggest you have a look on the internet or purchase a book on how to groom schnauzers correctly to get the best results from her coat then speak to your groomer to get their advice and decide on something that works for both of you.
A schnauzer is a specific cut if you want it to look good, so i would advise you use a groomer recommended by someone else who has a schnauzer.
