Hi

Has anyone any idea's how to remove the white water stain from glasses.  I use salt and rinsing agent, but my wine glasses have white rings around them.

I have tried white vinegar, which was the only tip I could find on the net, but it is not working.

You could try those tables that are user for cleaning false teeth.
Put that in the glass with some water and leave it for several hours.
My mother uses this to clean antique glass that has the white stains in them.

I will give them a try, thanks

Not something I have in the bathroom cabinet yet :D

:D :D
Let me know if it works.....
(I just use glasses that are not completely see through to avoid the spots being visible)
- By sandrah Date 18.03.05 14:10 UTC
Will do :)

- By Iguana74 [nl] Date 18.03.05 14:33 UTC

- By Teri Date 18.03.05 14:45 UTC
Between you and me   I think the "B" person has a hip flask :D
That's not your real name is it?
This is getting to be like a cult - or a coven

Oops...sorry ..Takes bottle away from Kayc and starts drinking
You're sucking your thum so can't drink anyway :p

They might be scratches rather than a chemical deposit - don't think there's anything you can do about scratches :(

Hmm I have always found the water mark somes off with the rinse agent, if it doesn't I top it up and it works next time. :-))

Give them a good bleach in the sink and start again :-)

This doesn't solve your problem I'm afraid Sarah, but we found that using liquid instead of powder of the capsules stopped us getting these marks.  Two years ago I got so sick of the marks on the glasses that I gave them all to charity and bought new ones.
- By sandrah Date 18.03.05 17:22 UTC
I am using the rinsing agent and the salt.  I am using those 3 in 1 tablets, but again they are supposed to be kind to glasses.
- By SharonM Date 18.03.05 18:27 UTC
I use the 4 in 1 tablets  Finish, they are excellent, the glasses come out really clean and sparkling.............now I sound like an ad for Finish  :-)
- By sandrah Date 18.03.05 19:05 UTC
That is what I use too Sharon, only the 3 in 1, I think the 4 in 1 have only been out a few weeks.

My tumblers are fine, it is just the wine glasses.  Perhaps there are different types of glass, although they are only plain.

Thinking about it, they do get used daily, the others don't ;)

Crystal shouldn't really be washed in dishwashers - they have a higher iron content or something and will eventually become cloudy and spoilt. The only glasses that I put in the dishwasher are cheap ones that we got free from Shell (or similar) over 20 years ago :D :D

It was the 3 in 1 tablets we used to Sandra and we also have rinse aid in the machine.  Try switching to a liquid, although I don't know if the glasses will get any better, but it should stop it happening to any glasses that haven't got marks on them.
- By sandrah Date 19.03.05 19:03 UTC
Thanks for all your replies.  I am coming to the conclusion the glasses must be crystal, I have had them a while and really can't remember.

Looks like I will have to replace with plain glass.

Maybe using salt, rinsing agent and the 3 in 1 tablets is too much.......I used to have a Whirlpool dishwasher and it never got glasses clean, got a Bosch now and had no problems at all
- By Daisy [gb] Date 20.03.05 09:10 UTC
I've got a Bosch and they state quite clearly that you shouldn't use 3-in-1 tablets - you must use separate rinse aid and salt, as the different programmes and also whether you have hard or soft water alters things a lot :)  (Also works out a lot cheaper buying the cheapest tablets, rinse aid etc :) )

I got a new Bosch delivered last month and it had a free box of Finish 3-in-1 tablets in it
- By Daisy [gb] Date 20.03.05 09:36 UTC
What do the instructions say ? Maybe they have changed - I have had mine for about 18 months.

Instructions do not say not to use 3-in-1 tablets but they do have a caution!

IMPORTANT NOTE ON THE USE OF COMBINED CLEANING PRODUCTS
Please note the following when using "combined cleaning products" which eliminate the need for a rinsing agent or salt, for example:
   - Some products with a built-in rinsing agent are only used to their full effect in certain programmes.
   - This type of product does not generally produce the desired effect with automatic programmes.
   - Products which eliminate the need for regeneration salt can only be used within a certain water hardness range.
   - If you wish to use these combined products, please read the instructions carefully and heed any notes on packaging.

So why give a free box of Finish 3-in-1 tablets with the dishwasher

Good question :D :D

My Bosch is around 12 - 18 months old but it also came with a box of 3 in 1 tablets, no warning on my instructions about not using them either.  Always have and never had any problems what so ever, cleans great, glasses included!
- By earl [gb] Date 20.03.05 22:26 UTC
It happened to us with ordinary glasses, we never put the crystal in the dishwasher.  If you get new glasses I would definitely stop using the tablets and only use liquid.  This seems to have worked ok with us.  :)
- By sandrah Date 20.03.05 22:46 UTC
Mine is a Neff, but came with a box of 3 in 1 tablets, I will get the instructions out tomorrow and have a closer look as I think Neff and Bosch are actually made by the same people.
- By SharonM Date 21.03.05 19:47 UTC
When I had my Whirlpool I was using rinse aid and salt, but the glasses were always dirty
- By sandrah Date 21.03.05 20:05 UTC
Do you just use the tablets now then Sharon?  It sounds like I might be over doing it.
- By LJS Date 21.03.05 21:05 UTC
My old dishbasher decided to have a problem with the rinse aid container. We had a foaming mess on the floor which resulted in a dishwasher repair man visit :D

Anyway he said that it was shot ( knackered)  so as the tablets had the stuff for rinse aid in then the dishbasher would be ok !

Was for 6 months then just gave up :D

So we now have the new one :D

The old lasted for 5 years so not bad really :)

Well Hubby has finally given up the ghost on fixing the motor in mine but having read this thread I have realised what a little beauty it was, always cleaned everything sparkly clean with no damage, from baked on Le Cruesets to glass (never put my crystal in though :)) never used salt, we have very soft water, just bought whatever tablets were cheapest and the little darling lasted 15 years so I shall definately be buying the same make again, a Hoover if anyone is interested :)
- By SharonM Date 22.03.05 08:42 UTC
Yes, just the tablets, nothing else.........give it a go.
