Hi Kim,
I know the old rule of thumb for gauging a dogs age, in comparison to that of humans, is one year for every seven of ours. But I think a more acurate picture can be reached with a sliding scale. For instance:
1st year = 10 human years
2nd year = 9 human years
3rd year = 8 human years
4th year = 7 human years
5th year = 6 human years
6th year = 6 human years
and 5 human years for each year after that.
I have own 3 German Shepherds, and it is said that a German Shepherd reaches adulthood at about two and a half years old. So, working it out with my scale, would put the "Teenage years" from about 18 months to just over 24 months.
Please note this is NOT a scientific formular, just merely my own observations.
Hope that this is of some help.
Good luck with your GSD.

I've got two GSDs. My older boy went through a really bratty stage from probably a year to about 2 years (somehow we survived!) but I think it's unusual for it to last that long! My younger female is just coming up for 1 this Friday so I am currently waiting (and praying!) :-)

My boy started his terrible teens at about 12 months and is gradually getting better (he's 22 months now). You just need to work through it!
My friends german shepherd is 3 and is still a teenager! I am not sure how far her 'maturing' and kiddy mentality has been prolonged by the fact taht she lives with two older dogs, and so can get away with always acting the baby!
