Hi there, we have a bitch which is nearly a year old. We are thinking about rescuing a dog or bitch as there is always dogs that need homes.

We rang one rescue centre, as we wanted another bitch, but they said they would not get on, as bitch and bitch fight. Is this correct??? We don't really mind a dog or a bitch, but I have never heard of this before.

Our breed is a boxer.

Please help.

hi, sometimes some  bitches will fight, and if they take a dislike to each other ,then it my be that you will have to rehome one of them, this is not always the case some get along very well together. i think most people will recommend that a dog and a bitch will get along much better, and if you have a conflict between them ,the dog will usually give in to a bitch . i have a dog and a bitch (boxers) and he is a lot more easy going than the girl. lets her have her way( anything for an easy life)

I wouldn't advice you to have another bitch if you already one, as the rescue centre has already pointed out that 2 bitches will fight. You will be better off getting a male.

Two bitches will often fight, yes they are correct.

As it is an adult your are gettign teh opposite sex is best.  Boxers tend to be less tolernat of their own sex as adults.  If it was a pup you were gettign tehm I would say get whichever you want.

I have got 3 bitches living together in my house and the worse it gets to is grumbling when they are in season certainly not fights but assuming you are getting a rescue do they not have to be spayed.  My family had 5 bitches living together (plus me ) at one point again no problem.

Ah but would they accept another ADULT bully bitch into their midst?  Even with well socialised tolerant dogs bringing in an adult or adolescent into their midst may cause competitive behaviour from the new comer or existing bitch.

I'm the same TTS have five here and two visiting (well one coming today and the other going home tommorrow night).  they all get on and also get on with visiting bitches, that is how they have been brought up.

Some breeds though do not tolerate same sex very well, and some only if they have been brought up from pupy hood.  In my experience out and about Boxer and Staff bitches are often intollerant of other mature bitches.

We have had more dog firghts then bitch fight in this house (dog fights only at season times and there was a misunderstanding on a run once!)

Both bitches I have now would have no-problem with another bitch, however my Emmi who has since passed away would not tollerate another bitch anywhere near her property unless they lived with her from puppies.

Maybe I have been brought up blined abit, but the boxers I grew up with and handling, the females would live together, 5 of them, no-problem and would have lodgers to stay.  If anything I find the aussies are worse then boxer bitches.

i have a friend who breeds boxers and she currently has 3 bitches they all get on fine i think it just comes down to the individual dog temprement wise e.t.c and youre current dog is still young so she will probably adjust a lot better hope this helps
