Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / how many walks for my labrador
- By Guest [gb] Date 21.03.05 13:02 UTC
Hi
I am new to the board and have a 10 month old labrador.  I am not sure how often I should be walking him are two walks a day sufficient.  I have heard of the 5 minute idea and walk him for approx 45 minutes for each walk but should he be having a walk at lunch time as well.
In general do people walk their dogs 2 or 3 times a day?
Thank you
Roger

Hi Roger.  The 5min rule of thumb is correct, but I work on this per day, not per walk. My labs at 10months would be on 2 x 20-30min walks per day.  I keep to this until they are around 14-15months. After this I build up their walks by 10mins per week.  Personally I walk my dogs twice a day, but as I am at home with them they also spend a great deal of time in the garden, my door is alway open, but watch that there is no rough play for the younger ones. If you are working and coming home during lunch break, I am sure your dog would appreciate a short walk maybe 10mins or so, this would not do any harm.  Why dont you join the forum :)
