I am not sure if I have seen this before or not which is a bone of contention between myself and hubby but I keep seeing dribbles of milk coming through the puppies nose. They are all well and very fat but is this normal? I wonder if they are over gutsing. My eldest son used to drink to much and then it would spill over. Help!!!
Have you carefully checked the roof of the puppies mouth? Milk through the nose can be the sign of a cleft palate, which can be very small and hard to detect in some cases.

I`ve not seen this before but have you checked her mouth, also how old are they?
Christine, Spain.
6 days old. The vet checked the litter at 2 days so I am assuming she checked for it then. Worrying though I dont have a lot of faith in vets so nothing would surprise me.

Many many years ago...I knew of a baby, born in a private hospital...whose cleft palate was not diagnosed until he had his routine 6 week NHS check in the local clinic. :-o
Did you see the vet check the mouths? If not I think you should check them yourself ;) though I`d doubt a whole litter could have the same prob, but best to be sure :)
Christine, Spain.

It could be a cleft pallet further back which couldn't be noticed when they were new born! Is the pup gaining weight the same as the rest?
Just done it and absolutley fine his mouth looks the same as all the others and there is no sign of any holes. This doesnt happen all the time it is just sometimes. Yes he is gaining weight. How far back should I be looking I can see right to the back of his throat and no holes.

I had this with a pup a while ago ...I was really sure there must have been a hole i couldn't see so the vet gave her a good check over and found nothing ..he told me that sometimes if a pups is gready and suck very hard it can happen as it's not swallowing all the milk ..........the pup is fine and is now 2 and lives here with us

T the S. Ollie did this, he started roughly 6/7 days old, this was the first sign that he had phnemonia. I cant remember what vet said, but roughly said because of the phnemonia, fluid was building up in his lungs, and when feeding caused him to take great intakes of breath, the air in the windpipe (thinks thats wrong) stopped the milk going to the correct tube and was shoved back up to down out of his nose. Just to say Ollie is now 6 months old and doing great, but I would get to the vet, better safe than sorry

I had a a puppy in 2 litters that did this, it worried me sick to begin with. 100% nothing wrong with either of them. I think they were the greedy ones. I have one of them here and he is 10 months now.

both my last 2 litter done this and most pups in the letters would do it and there was nothing wrong with them. i would cheek for cleft palet. and if there is nothing then its just the pups sucking to hard.
Thank you all for your advice. I am sure I had this in the previous litter but I think it could have been the one I bottle fed.

If it was a bottle fed pup then I would worry as it would sound as though the milk had gone into pups lungs...........once this happens my vet said there is no hope for it.
Maybe the pup just had a good feed this time, keep a close eye on it.
Good luck
No Sharon baby pup not been bottle fed. Scrappy from the last litter was now a strapping 8 month old but he used to guts everything down to the point one night we thought we had killed him because he blew up like a balloon.
hi karen
my 4mth old baby does that occasionally, and he doesnt have a cleft pallet. he does it wen he guttses to much milk and it goes down the wrong hole.so its probably that i wouldnt worry to much about it as long as hes still gaining weight! x
Hi
Just being a pig and guzzling for England is he the smallest as they often do this as the milk flow comes and they cant take it all in so it comes back up the nose he will grow out of it. Will be strong that's for sure

firstly you must check the palate of the puppy,if all ok then i would say you've just got a greedy puppy that can't get enough
