Our local paper this week has several litters of 'pedigree' puppies listed for sale but also a one year old labrador puppy (lovely temperament, house trained, vaccs, £150).  Last week there was a german shepherd puppy (nine months old £500! I think) for sale.  I just wondered whether you could (or indeed should) do anything about these.  I can only think of phoning and asking whether they are KC registered, if so what the kennel name is and letting the breeder know they are being sold on or to advise the relevant rescues.  Or would you just not get involved as people have every right (by law) to sell their dogs.  I just seem to see adverts like this every week at the moment and find it a bit sad.
Thanks

It is very sad seeing these adverts.
I saw one yesterday in the adtrader and i was disgusted, it said.
Dougue De Bordeaux bitch for sale, nearly 2 years old, good pedigree, due in season!!!.
That person is obviously not bothered if a puppy farmer buys this bitch or they would not advertise that she is due in season, would they.
I wanted to ring them and tell them what for, but what would i achieve, they will still sell the bitch to anyone no matter what i say.

Saw an ad in E&M this week for boxer pups, but photo on ad was of a Staffy?!

It is sad, see it all the time in my paper :-(

Also the 'good champion pedigree but not KC reg'!!!!! - these are for sale as much as the KC, health tested ones!

I think it is a good idea to find out the kennel name & let the breeder know - I would want to know if it was one of my pups.
I don't think there is much you could do though, but you could let them know you were not pleased.

Another ad that makes me mad is - 'for sale due to new baby' why would a new baby stop them keeping the dog? unless is was allergic to it.

We also have them a lot in the Manchester Evening News unfortunately.  I hate reading it sometimes and I too would love to phone these people up and give them what for.

Legally there is nothing the breeder can do if they see adverts like this. The dog is 'property' in law and can be resold. Usually the puppy sales contracts wont hold water in court. Of course, the breeder always has the option to contact the owners and pay the fee they are asking to get the puppy back. I f you did ring these people with the dog for sale what would they do....tell you to naff off I would imagine but not so polite

As an after thought. What do you all think the breeder should do? What would you do? If this was 'your' puppy?

I suspect the ones that are sold on in this way are more likely to be from puppy farmers, back yard breeders etc.  I help with lab rescue and the dogs we get in are rarely bred by reputable breeders.  Some will probably slip through, but I think the majority will be from easy to come by sources rather than reputable breeders.

In the Manchester Evening News this weekend there are Labradoodle's advertised for £650 !! Some gullible mug will phone up and buy them.

Thats cheap, they are usually £1,000!! Iknow you all dont like mixing breeds, but this mix has been going on for about 10 yrs or so now. The good ones actually follow all proceedures as any one here would advise with their stock. I'v had a look at the websites, and like the cross or not those that are commited to this 'breed' are as guarded over their puppies and stock as any of you are. trouble is, now other peeps are getting on the money spinning bandwaggen more of them will pop up, not so carefully bred.........now thats dejvou 4 u......lol
