I feed this dry food along with nature diet (The wet food in trays) & forthglade (The wet food in boxes).
Does anyone know if these foods are tested on animals? or if the company pays another company to do the testing?
I have emailed JWB but the reply was 'JWB as a company do not test on animals' Does this mean they pay someone else to do it for them?
I cant find anything on the web saying they do or dont!

when i emailed JWB last yr they said they did test, so i refuse to feed it.
burns and arden grange are good dry foods that dont test on animals
JWB is owned by Mars who also own pedigree and royal canin so I would think that they do test, the fact that they did not give you a straight answer would also make me suspicious. Nature diet don't test but I've never heard of forthglade. Trophy are another that doesn't test but the ingredients listing states "permitted EEC antioxidents" and these include things like BHT & BHA among others.
Having done a bit of research on this as I use Trophy, they unlike some other manufactures list all the ingredients and can provide any information you request.
the LEVELS of bht&bha used are little and well within permitted and lawful guidelines deemed as harmless and they use vitamin e &rosemary oil as well. Other manufactures that purchase their meat from suppliers who use BHT use slogans such as no added artificial antioxidants but a may already be in the meat . You would be surprised the number of manufactures who do not answer direct question despite having web site classed as customer friendly. bht and bhA can be found in most animal treats, human food and they are one of the most scrutinised of antioxidants. Honesty is better than silence in my option and TROPHY WERE also one of the first to be approved by The BUAV - Jo
I wasn't suggesting that Trophy was not a good food as I have never tried it, I was merely pointing out that these additives are in there as some people may not be aware. I would not be the least bit surprised about manufacturers that do not answer questions, I have come across a couple of them myself. I cannot give my dogs food with additives in as one of them develops behavioural problems as a result. High protein and fat levels do not affect him. We do not know for sure which ones are causing the problem so I avoid all of them to be safe and he doesn't even get biscuit treats except the ones from Burns or that I have cooked myself. The issue of animal testing is certainly an important one for me also.

Thanx for the replies.
After talking to the lady from the pet shop she told me they were an independant company, but have now been taken over by pedigree masterfoods - no where on the bags can I see this :-( bit naughty really.
Anyway, came home with a bag of burns puppy food (as she is in pup) & will change her to that over a week or so.
Thanks to all for your help

Not sure if I may have miss read this, but Burns puppy food is for puppies, not expectant mothers. Sorry if that's not what you meant. :-)

Claire, many people feed puppy food to pregnant bitches because the protein levels are higher without increasing the volume of food, which is what the bitch needs.
HTH :)
Burns puppy food (mini bites) only has 21% protein and both of my adult dogs get more than that. They also do one called Canine Extra which is 24% which is actually for pregnant bitches, perhaps this is the one?

Hi - the pet shop told me to use the burns puppy food for her as she is pregnant?
I was using JWB puppy before so I thought this was correct :-(
I did not know there was one for pregnant bitches - should I buy this one instead - I dont know if my shop stocks it though.
I also give her a tray of nature diet every day (the puppy one at the mo) or some fresh meat.
any advice gratefully recieved!
Thankyou
Jo
Hi Jo
Didn't mean to worry you, sorry :-) Burns do mini bites and that is the puppy food. The other one is canine Extra which it says is for large breed puppies from 6 months and pregnant and nursing bitches. I don't know which your dog is on or which would be best for her, I have found though that the one pet shops don't stock is the canine active which is the working dogs food that mine are on so I get mine direct from Burns, they seem to stock all the others. I only have dogs and I don't know anything about nutrition for pregnant bitches. I would have thought that with the Nature Diet as well she was getting enough but don't take my word for it :-)
