got a 4 year old sibierian husky and about a month ago she got an ear infection due to a cat scratch. even though it has healed her the skin around her eye is scabby and raw. despite many trips to vet the problem isn't recitified and now seems to be spreading to her other eye. any advice would be gratefully accepted

Hi Oliver,
sounds very much like a zinc deficiency, which huskys are prone to. Confirm it with your vet and they'll probabay prescribe zincomed or something similar, which you can usually get a lot cheaper at Tescos. Also feeding Sardines in tomato sauce and pigs liver, may help.
good luck.
P.S. That cat won't be so lucky next time!
LOL @ Louise :D Calls itself a Husky? Shame!
Try a 2% solution of NZYMES Oxy-Drops from first4pets.co.uk...do a Quick Search for 'eye' on the site for similar cases...their products are guaranteed to make a difference or your money back...you can't say fairer than that, can you?
Cheers.

You can find info about zinc deficiency at:

Zinc deficiency normally shows up in younger dogs, so it might be something else. Is here any sign of redness around the lips and chin? This could be another indication of ZD.
To help heal the wound I swear by Aloe Gel. My lab has a 'chalky lump' on his lower eye lid, every now and then it gets caught and a little aloe on it will heal it up in a couple of days, even if I have missed it for long enough for an infection to get in.
