Does anyone know if there is a specific training club just for Border Collies in the Nuneaton (Warwickshire) area?

Just general obedience training.  Whisky is a rescue dog, he is 1 year old.  I have been taking him to a general puppy training class.  Whilst this was held outside in a field he wasn't too bad, but when the class moved indoors he had a big problem.  Barking at other dogs and sounding quite aggressive.  The trainer told me that he is a very nervous dog and very anxious when parted from me.  Unfortunately this class has now disbanded, hence the need to find another one, and someone mentioned that they thought there was a club specifically for border collies in Nuneaton.

He has a problem with other dogs when he is on a lead, (but it only seems to manifest itself when I am on the other end) if he is walking with a male friend he will walk past other dogs, bicycles, people etc.,  He is the fourth dog that I have owned and none of the others were like this.

If he is off lead, he will come to me if another dog approaches and if I can get his attention with a biscuit or treat he is quite happy to watch the treat and ignore the other dog.

This short message has turned into quite a tale.

not sure really,as im in somerset!!!
but there is a obedience club in nuneaton,that prob has a fair few bordercollies in it!!!!
theres also midland border collie club,that runs shows in ob & breed,but not sure if or where they train!!
will try to find out...bear with me!!!!

Took Whisky to his first class at Nuneaton last night.  He didn't do too badly, and I was most encouraged  as the trainers assured me that most things can be sorted out.

Apparently I have allowed him to become too dominant.   The trainers were telling me things that I had never thought of as none of my other dogs were at all like Whisky.  He is now having to learn that I am top dog not him, so we are going through a period of me being first out of the door, up the stairs etc.,

I will admit I was very apprehensive about taking him to training, especially as we have a new class started locally and I was thinking about taking him there.  But once the lady running the classes was told that he was aggressive on a lead she did not want me to attend her classes, and she told me that I would be better at Nuneaton.  I was extremely stressed by the time we reached Nuneaton particulary as he had thrown a dicky fit about my friend and her puppy being in the car, but the people at Nuenaton were so friendly and not at all bothered about him barking.  They were most helpful and by the time the class ended
I was feeeling more positive and ready to carry on the things we had learned when we got home.

They assure me that at the end of the eight week period I will think I have got a different dog.

well done! nice to hear back too!
even if you have no "competitve" urges it is a good idea to give "bcs" somthing to do,so if you enjoy the classes maybe you will consider  carring on after the 8weeks?

I think that we will see how he progresses, but my friend will definitely carry on so something tells me I will as well.

I'll let you know how he is after a few more sessions.
