They don't get the human kind of nits but they can get dog lice from another dog. Mine got them years ago and it was hard to eradicate the little pests. When we went shooting a gun turned up as a guest and the following week everyone who had travelled near this dog had got lice on their dogs! In the end I found the only way to get rid of them was to bath the dogs using the louse shampoo you use for kids, as dog lice are notoriously difficult to get rid of. I tried Frontline but it didn't work.
On kids though I found Frontline worked wonderfully, and kept them nit free for weeks. My vet uses it on his kids too.

Yup - I also use frontline on my kids! - recommended by the vet.
Works much better than the stuff you can buy from the chemist - works out cheeper too

Nits are an occupational hazard for me - I'm paranoid about it, and have to nit comb in the shower every morning with teatree oil mixed into my conditioner. It's worked for me so far :) .

JUST BEEN OUT AND HAD A SNIFF OF FRONTLINE IT DOES ACTUALLY SMELL LIKE NIT LOTION. PErHAPS THATS WHY DOGS DONT GET THEM :D

The vet told me that the Frontline used on dogs is a modern safe chemical, affecting the nits not the mammal that it is used on, where as the chemical used in kids hair products are the old type poisons, which are quite nasty. I put a little in a tray and dip the comb in. Don't use the spot on, use the spray.

I use the spray & leave it on overnight, then shampoo in the morning!
I dont know if the chemist would agree it was safe though! but i use it on all of us 2 adults, 1 x 13yr old with asthma (sp?) 1 x10 yr old, 1x 7 yr old, 1 4 yr old with ecxema (sp?) & a 2 yr old.
It is fine with no reactions, the 'nit lotion' upsets the asthmatic & the the girl with exema - thats proof enough for me!
I also find it lasts longer, where with nit lotion they would come home with nits again the following week.
Several of my friends now also use it.
