Topic Dog Boards / Showing / pink fur on legs - how can I get rid of
- By montybaber [gb] Date 17.03.05 21:23 UTC
Hi

I own a two and a half year old Saint, who up until recently had a touch of dermatitis on one of his rear legs, he started to bite it and lick it and it turned pink.  On discussion with the vet I washed it with hibiscrub daily and applied fuciderm (a steroid gel) to the area but the fur is still a pinky colour.  He also seems to have a pinky tinge to both his front legs, I think where he has a stuffed kong and licks it. I have tried washing it with whitenening shampoo's, fairy liquid and hibiscrub but to no avail.

Does anyone have any hints at all, i am at the end of my tether now and have even clipped off some hair from his legs to see if it is hair that is pink and not coming from his skin  (he looks such a state).  He is absolutley perfect in every other way.

Thanks for your time.

The pink staining is from his saliva. When you can stop him needing to lick, the staining will go at the next moult. All the while he licks it'll stay. So cure the problem and the symptom will go too.
