Sorry but you've left it far too late this season. Presumably she has been eye tested and hip scored and has no health problems in her pedigree? Chances are she's passed the time for mating this season anyway. Spend the next 6 months looking for a dog with a compatable pedigree, exemplary temperament and has had all necessary health checks.

If your bitch is already on day 14 you have left finding a stud dog very late. Have you decided what lines you want to follow at all? :) Also, has your bitch had all the necessary health checks and is she a good example of the breed?

These are all things you would probably need to answer for the prospective dad :) Why don't you Register with us and then you can tell us more :)

karen yu have left it too late even if you have ahd all the relevant health tests.

If you had done sufficient reseqarch into breeding a litter you would already have several sires in mind.

If you are serious about breeding leave it this time, as it is likely already too late, and use the time in studying the breed and crystalising why it is you want to breed a litter.  Your aim should be to produce puppies as close the the breed standard as you can that will be of benefit to the breeds gene pool and a credti to the breed and yourself and good companions for their owners.  Sadly there are already literally hunreds of badly bred Akita's in rescues.

Firstly your bitch needs to be impartially assessed as to her quality against the breed standard.  The best way to do this is to show her.  Otherwise you will need to visit several breed experts. If reputable your breeder and the owner of her sire would be good people to give an opinion, bearing in mind that few dogs and bitches are of the quality needed to be bred from.  I would check your breeders standing with the relevant breed clubs, and if they are not known then frankly their opinion is likely to be of little benefit.

You will need to attend shows in order to see what males are available and what the puppies they produse are like.  I would also suggest joining the breed club/s and purchasing back issues of their publications in order to research your bitches lines.  Attend any educatiuonal and other events run by the clubs.

If your bitch is duitable for breeding from ehr appearance you will need to get her Hip Scored, Eye tested and have her thyroid checked (there may be other health issues that need to be tested for).  If the results are good and you still widh to bred, then you will need to be prepared for a lot of expense (several thousand piunds) for the costs involved with a first litter.

You will then have to be ultra careful in vetting potential homes, and are likely to have to reject 3 times as many people as yopu accept, as sadly the breed attracts a lot of interest from totally unsuitable owners.  will you have space to take back at any time an adult or mal adjusted adolescent Akit to retrain and rehome, bearing in mind this breed are not very tolerant of other dogs, theri own sex especially???

Good luck in your research, your going to have a busy six months :D
