One of my puppy owners has phoned and asked if I could board 'Millie' when they go away. She's been in kennels before and absolutely hated it so they don't want to do it again if it can be avoided. I'd be delighted to have her, but I've never had other dogs in the house before and I don't know how my lot will react to a stranger (well, they haven't met for over 5 years) on their territory.

I've suggested that before we decide, they bring her up to meet the gang and see how they get on. Obviously we'll let them meet first on neutral territory, out on a walk, before we attempt to bring her into the house, and if she does stay I won't leave them together unattended - she'll sleep on her own etc.

has anyone any advice on how to make this go well, or is it a silly idea?

Friend of mine who is involved with rescue takes some dogs back during owners breaks if they wouldn't adapt to kennels, it works fine for her.

The introduction plan sounds great

Could you have her for a trial of a weekend ? Then if it doesn't work there wouldn't be a big problem. If they left her with you for 2 weeks, say, it could be a very long time until they come home :)

I`ve had doggy visitors stay with us in the house with my lot & it worked out well, like B/less says, when its one of the same breeds they just blended right in :)

My dogs are used to visitors and visiting, and I have no trouble when looking after a dogf for freinds or ex pups.  when it is one of the same breed they just belnd in.
