if you swear at someone in public. (just swearwords not threats) & they report you to the police, can the police charge you with anything? breach of peace, antisocial behaviour ?

But there has to be proof ie witnesses to be honest its your word against theres, I doubt the police would really take much interest. You'd get a warning and thats about it, personally I think there are more important things the police should be concerntrating on than people having slanging matches!

I remember watching some cops TV program where they arrested a girl from swearing at the coppers, and I thought it was quite unfair, as she wasn't being a nuisence.  I reckon she was just someone who swore a lot!  For that she got a night in the cells.  She was drunk of course, but certainly not 'drunk and disorderly' from what I could make out.

what about if id been provoked by a bitter witch for a year, who then provoked me "on the day", swore back at me & threatened me? do you think the police would take that into account. there are witness' think the whole street heard!

she told my mums friend she was going to the police, that was on monday. no police yet (thursday)

I'm not 100% certain here, but I really don't think anything at all will come of her going to the police - if she even bothers.  They're far more to deal with that pathetic accusations like that.  If anything, you should be noting down times and places of when she's verbally attacking you, and then have HER done for harrassment.  I hate people like that - it's just like being bullied at school - some people never really grow up do they?  I had a girl drive at me in her car a few years back, but fortunately she never hit me because she just caught a car that was parked at the side of me and it stopped her (I was stood - not in a car).  It went to court several times and every time she attended she pretended she was ill, so we never got to give our side of the evidence such as the fact that she yelled and threatened to 'run me over' before she actually tried, brake lights never came on, wheel spinning etc - not to mention the fact that after she crashed the car she stuck her head out of the window, yelled 'didn't think I'd do it did you', and then reversed for another go - fortunately her boyfriend grabbed the keys from the car before she could.  She got nothing - nada.  In the end they charged her with driving without due care and attention, and she got a £40 fine - pathetic.  Makes my blood boil!!

Michelled

I wouldnt worry about it I very much doubt the police will be interested!!

If you swear at the police thats a different matter. She doesnt have a leg to stand on.

God if everyone was arrested for swearing Im sure half of us would be under lock and key...:)

Michelled,  hope my earlier comments didn't worry you (mentioning about the cops arresting someone) I was just trying to point out that they're harsh when swearing is aimed at them.  As mentioned above, you've nothing to worry about.

shes been harressing me for training flynn in the park. although i have spoken to the council & they have said its ok. shes also spoke to the council & theyve told her its ok.
she also makes snide comments if im training on the square of tarmac between my house & the park, & if im walking to the car. she will say how "cruel" i am & "how she wont like to look like me" ?????? (hey im no supamodel but im not THAT bad!!!!)
anyway ive put up with this for over a year now but on monday i just had had enough., if she had been pushing for a reaction she sure got one. now is it my fault then if she starts crying? if she has been trying to provke me for a year what did she expect?a prettey poem?

since then ive asked the other doggy park users & they ALL love watching me, & people in the houses around the park, including many elderly people.

flynn is trained purely by motivation & is a joy to watch, hes prancey & likes to leap up & give me kisses. really cruel huh?

meanwhile her sdog totally ignores her & when she finally gets him back she smacks him around the head for not coming straight back :(

i train most days (but not everyday) ,at different times, & for approx half a hour (sometimes 45mins sometimes  less)

in a small corner (different corners) of a biggish park.

How horrible for you, but you are doing nothing wrong!

Hope it gets resolved - is she perhaps mentally ill, do you think?

She sounds like a horrible person, and like I said before, a bit of a bully.  I think you did right in standing up to her, and I reckon the only reason she's threatened with the police is because you've scared her.  Have you seen her or had any problems with her since you swore at her?
- By michelled [gb] Date 17.03.05 15:37 UTC
just a bitter old woman. her dog really likes me which she hates! :D :D now i cant help that!
she also has been telling people to put their dogs on the lead so they dont come near hers (although hers is off the lead)?

he used to be a lovely happy dog. hes a collie/lab/spaniel id say. but now she wont allow him any doggy friends to play with& grabs at him in a panic if any dogs come near him & now hes getting REALLY nervous of other dogs, her fault. oh no sorry its my fault for training i expect

Blondiflops to the rescue!

She sounds totally jealous of you and Flynn if you ask me, you have every right to exercise your dog and train your dog in the park. To be honest i doubt the police even took her complaint seriously that is if she actually did make the call.
I would also imagine that her harassment of you is far more serious than some bad language!

Well done for not smacking her as i think i would have
- By ice_queen Date 17.03.05 16:10 UTC
I'll be with you blondiflops!

I wouldn't worry about it.  Some people are just bitter, twisted and jelous and I'm sure everyone else would not have a problem.  I used to obedience and show train in a vally and acouple of garage allocments with my grandparents dogs, and would give local friend extra training round these areas, although got weird looks from people who where unsure what I was doing, there was never a problem, seems like theres only one person who has a problem with you, if it's crule to keep your dogs mind going, then I don't know what isn't!!!  Saying that My mentor at school thinks dog showing is crule...she doesn't know how much fun Arnie has of making me out to be a bad handler (or am I just a bad handler!?)  Some people just don't understand!  I'm sure the police will not take her complaint seriously.  Just make sure you keep yourself calm and don't do anything stupid that she can get you done for.

Long story but I was sworn at by someone and threatened in Tescos of all places. (her husband went to prison for something he did to me). Anyway, I called the police, withing 2 hours, they were round with a video, of the incident. Then went round and arrested her for harassment.
