Hi, i'm filling in the entry form for the windsor championship show on 3rd July, on the day of the show my dog will be 10 days under 9 calendar months which means he could be entered into minor puppy, puppy & junior classes. Could i get some advice on which classes to enter if not all three.

If it were my dog I would enter him in minor puppy only.  He's just a babe don't over do it.  Good luck.

Now in my breed I would enter all three (though second entries are getting very pricey).  The reason being that often our young classes are not very well filled, adn this hardly giews a pup time to get the idea about the fing before it is all done and dusted.  also if classes are small it is much more satsfying getting a lower place in a better filled class than winning a class of one or two.  Sometimes it even works the other way around.

I once entered a small Junior class of 3 and was 2nd (so would have not een particularly pleased), but had also entered Post Grad where there were 10 or more and won that class :D.  The first in Junior won the RCC that day.

I have done the same as Brainless. At Tia's 1st shows, I entered all three, mainly for the experience for her, she took 2nd in MP and puppy, and took 1st in Junior, the critieque noted that *she had settled down nicely by this class* which made all the difference.  If you feel that by the 2nd or 3rd class he is too tired or stressed, you can withdraw him. minor puppy only..stafford classes are huge you do not want the little 'un getting fed up at such a young age.

You can't actually withdraw from breed classes, so the best thing to do is do a search on the classes at last years shows and see the likely size of the classes.

Hi, i was thinking of entering him into all 3 classes but i was just a bit worried wheather it would be a bit much for him as he is still young and in july the weather is going to be quite hot. If i did enter into all 3 classes, on the day  could we sit out of  the junior class if we felt it would be a bit much for him.

i take back what i said about huge classes as it seems windsor is an exception.last year mp = 6 puppy= 3 but junior had 16
i would still only go for mp though as the dogs in puppy will have the edge maturity wise on your pup.

Based on last year I would go for Minor Puppy and Puppy, as he will be going in Puppy from next show so may as well know in advance how he is likely to shape up against those older pups being only 10 days short :D

Puppy stakes is also excellent experience and I always enjoy entering them, though only got to do two last year as pup then won one of them and couldn't do any more.

I would enter the two puppy classes! In my breed the Juniors are getting towards maturity and a pup's at a bit of a disadvantage.

Can I just ask what class you would enter a pup that going to be 11 months and 30 days old on the day of a show? I'm thinking of entering him for puppy as he is fairly small for his age, though his littermates will probably be in junior.

Thanks :) I doubt i'll enter him for both as the classes will be huge (and he'll get far too bored) - will do one breed class and possibly rescue stakes :)

Champ shows do tend to be massive as Cooper has mentioned and can have over 20 in a class

You still want to make it fun at this age to avoid him looking and feeling bored

My staffie is 3 1/2 but has not done many shows due to me not being able to drive!

I can take the train to windsor though.

We will all have to arrange to all meet up closer to the time! & wish each other luck.
