Been a good while since I had horse but is the red ribbon in the tail to denote a kicker still used??

Reason I'm asking is that it has been suggested on another site as an idea to warn that dogs are not comfortable with strangers or other dogs approaching. I have worries that anyone using that is admitting to a problem and if an incident happens could be in an awkward position.

Has it ever caused a problem in horses???

Yep - red ribbon in the tail is to warn for a potential kicker.

I wouldn't use a ribbon on my horses tail (they don't kick dogs btw!) purely because if someones dog is off the lead and close enough to my horses heels to be kicked its the owners fault, not mine. The only time I get any trouble from dogs is those that are out on the road unattended (owners left gate open - dogs escaped) and they normally run up barking... luckily mine don't react, but if they did I wouldn't be in the least bit bothered if my horse kicked out. Loose dogs are a menace.

Finally, its the owners that should be more careful - because if a loose dog caused a horse to bolt I suspect it would be the dog owners in more trouble!

Red Ribbon is to be used on dogs' collar or lead in a similar fashion to  horse tail to warn other dog owners people to keep their distance.
