Can anyone recommend what drier/blaster and make of clippers are the best to get.

Opinions may vary on this a little.

YOu probably can't got past oster clippers and the Tornado 93 free standing dryer is the most popular combination in Europe.  They seem to have a bit of a price fix on this dryer but one or 2 supplies will through something else in with the deal.

If you can get to a show generally you can get the best prices on them. If you can afford to buy both together for a better saving.

One of the other popular dryers was a Simpsons one ( Val help me out here with the Model) :-)))

Thanks for that...we were going for oster but someone said they were a bit heavy and suggested andis.Had a quick look at crufts and they were quite a bit cheaper but cheaper is not always best

Touch wood I have had no problems at all with my osters and don't find them heavy at all ..

Don't know how I managed without my dryer/blaster to be honest :-)

Is there any difference between hairdressing clippers and pet clippers?

Yes. The human ones are not suitable dogs. They will do one cut and die :-))))

Even the professional ones?  As I have a trade card for a hairdressing supplier, it would be far cheaper for me to buy my next clippers from there, which is why I was asking.

I would say yes however I trim westies so need a decent clipper.

You can pick up a half decent pair for about £100  Probably not much more than the hair ones..

Star, this is for hannah right?  Her best pet is to look at them at shows and see how she finds them.  I need some knew scissors, so have planned to go round a champ show with a grooming friend and look at scissors, she has recormended what she's got, but we will see If I like them to hold and feel, if she's not comfortable with clippers or any other equipment, she won't be able to use them to their best.

Myself I use Oster or Aesculap, all of the others that people have tried on our breed either don't even touch the coat or heat up nearly straight away!!

I have a Dezynadog Gizmo blaster/dryer - it's very powerful and will dry my BSD's from 'just out of the bath wet' to bone dry in 20 minutes. It's only drawback is that it's heavy and clumsy to manouevre but otherwise it's great - especially in the winter when I can just blast all the muck and mud off them after their walks :D

Use to use Oster A5s (most hairdresser supplies will order them in for you, even thought for dogs) but they are heavy and noisy compared to my Laube Mini Micros.  These are lightweight but fast and easy, fit OSter and Wahl blades, are 12v (come with a transformer) so very safe ina grooming enviormsnet.  Also easy to self service for  simpel bits and pieces. Cant recomend them highly enough.  Dryers depends a lot on the breed.  Would not be wihtout my blaster fro pets/puppy trims dogs, but a nightamre on full coats in flowing coated breeds .  I love my liberty stand dryers as they are lightish to travel with and ofld inot a bag, but need regular services.  Also have an oldish tornado which is a real workhorse.

I think simpsons are still repairing Liberties.  I have 2 both on the "sick list" jsut not got round to getting them fixed yet.

Hi there,
Another vote for Laube mini micros !  They are much lighter than the others so there is less wear and tear on your wrists....an essential consideration if you do a lot of clipping. They are also quiet and don't heat up as much as some other makes. You can find them online at technogroom.co.uk.
