Anyone been here before or know the area? :)
We are off to spend the week there next week in a glorious cottage and looking for places to either walk to or visit in the surrounding area :)

Lel, its lovely down there, only about 45 miles from me. Pub at Threlkeld is good for meals and allows dogs. Only 10 miles or so from Keswick. Loads of great walks for dogs

Glenridding and Patterdale have lovely walks, Megan did her last good walk there, so has fond memories for me. Loads of fantastic walks around Little Langdale and Chapel Stile, which is about 25 miles south of Berrier. Grassmere is a usual visitors haunt, and for shopping definately Ambleside.
Dont know if you noticed I edited my last post, what dates are you coming up. Gillian (Satincollie) and I will be at a dog show close by on the 19th

Nice walk around Buttermere I would recomend, also if you like pretty villages then Hawkshead is lovely and just down the road from there is Sawry (beatrix Potter lived here) :)

Depends what you like Lel I would definitely suggest you visit Keswick, Castle Rigg Stone Circle,Whinlatter Forest,Aira Force and Penrith. Futher south to Ambleside and Windermere to take a launch round the Lake,Brokhole visitors centre, Dove Cottage and Wordsworth Museum.Walks around any of the lakes are picturesque and relaxing if the weather is kind but it can be awful wet(thats how come we have the lakes LOL) Jus tsome ideas I'm sure Isabel will come up with some more as she visits Keswick regularly and may think of some that I have missed there are other places as well but I am asuming that Gus and Libby will be with you so have listed places where the dogs can go too

Ahhh I know where you mean. Its lovely, we have been on cruises on Ullswater and you can take the dogs too! Buttermere is lovely, you can walk right round the lake and its easy walking. You won't be short of places to go and things to see. I saw my only RED Squirrel while walking round Buttermere.

We came back from Keswick yesterday. We walked up Cat Bells which was supposed to be an easy walk for all the family, I must be so unfit. We also walked up at Watendlath thats lovely its like another world up there. The dogs really loved the walk at Brandelhow Park on Derwentwater we're going to walk right around the lake when we go again in June. There really are so many places to go up there.

I think you've covered it pretty well, Satincollie :) just to add there is a good proportion of dog friendly pubs to round off any walk :)

>>>Where was your cottage? <<<<
If you turn off the A66 signposted Whitbarrow/ Hutton Roof (?) and go up the lane past the Hoseasons Village it was a cottage opposite one of the farms
Called the Cruck Barn :) Absolutely lovely :)

Oh yes I know where you mean, so much quieter than the South Lakes too.

I'm glad you enjoyed it so much Lel and had the benefit of the lovely sunshine we've had as well. MMM must try and get out and about myself shortly the dogs love swimming in the lakes :D
