Can anyone recomend a canine insurance plan? I am hoping to get a puppy come the summer, and want some advice/feedback on the insurance plans out there, and people's experiences with different companies. I have heard Marks & Spencer is good, but did not understand what reference to the 'excess' meant in terms of the policy (is this the price you are prepared to pay for vets fees before making a claim?) It is all a bit mind boggling to be honest!
Thanks.

Hi Guest,

if you type "insurance" into the search option in the top right of page you'll get a variety of threads discussing same with various recommendations for and against of members' experiences :)  Re M&S, yes for a small additional payment you can cover your pet without having an "excess" which means that your total vet bill (for medical treatment of illness etc - not worming, innoculations) will be refunded to you.  Other companies may also provide this facility if you check with them (I use M&S so can't comment on anyone else) - but regardless it will increase the premium to some degree or another.

Of course you could join CD and discuss further ;)

my dogs are insured with the kennel club it is not cheap but looking at different companies it seems a good cover.what you have to look for is the vet fee cover, a lot seem to be cheap, but you want one with a lifetime cover, some only cover for 12months, then if any thing goes wrong they will not cover that condition again. please get your dog insured. a friend of mine dog got run over, so far the bill is up to £4.500
