yes lets all agree tp differ. i dont partically want to "show" but id not be on here slating people that do. freedom of choice & all that!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 16.03.05 10:21 UTC
Exactly. I don't think anyone's slated people who like or perform DWD/HTM; they've just said it doesn't appeal to them, for whatever reason. Which is fair enough.
:)

actually i think mary has been slated on here. she dosent deserve that. shes a lovely person who adores her dogs & imo is the best handler in the uk if not the world. & if you ever met her youd meet a charming funny yet quite shy person who just lives for her dogs.
id chop off my right arm to be able to glide around the obedience ring like she does .

I think maybe the activity has been ... not slated exactly, but not received universal approval! ;) I don't think the people who do it have been attacked at all, or have I missed something?
- By michelled [gb] Date 16.03.05 11:09 UTC
maybe i read too much into it? who knows but if thats the impreesion i got then thats the impression i got!

obviously something like that is not going to appeal to every doggy person, which is totally fair enough!
there are many doggy activites that i know sod all about & they dont appeal to me. my choice.
flyball is not my kind of thing, but  i like to learn & observe, & can appreciate that the people that do it. love it.love their dogs & are as devoted to their sport as i am to mine, & admire this. like the people who show & spends hours at shows & all the grooming and trimming. not my thing but i admire them. & am interested enough in "dogs" as a whole to enjoy crufts for what it is. so if you are a real doggy person surely marys work even if it leaves you cold & unimpressed. YOU must be able to see the rapport with her dogs & realise that her skills, talent & time spent reaching that standard should be admired. NOT dissmissed as mere circus tricks.

It's just that I'm old enough to remember when circuses had performing dogs dressed up in tutus and tailcoats etc, for people to laugh at, and these performances do jog some distasteful memories. :( Yes, she's very clever, and yes, she has a good rapport with her dogs who seem to be happy enough - but so did those circus dogs. An age thing, I suppose. Nothing personal.

I dance like me dad, so Im sure the dog would be incredibly embarassed to be with me.
- By ClaireyS Date 16.03.05 12:01 UTC
Lol Emma :D :D same here, my boys would hang their little ginger heads in shame if I attempted to dance - especially on nation tv :p

I have a hard enough time, trying not to fall over my own feet blow four others
- By Havoc [gb] Date 16.03.05 12:07 UTC
For me its just a bloke thing. Like synchronised swimming, ice dancing and baton twirling etc - clever, but not to my taste.

The dog looks happy, and it seems to please a lot of people.

- By michelled [gb] Date 16.03.05 12:08 UTC
i cant see its anything like the saME  thing JG.:(  have you ever met her? because shes such a nice person i feel you would be embarressed to have compared her to a circus act if you ever do :(. she has videos out that show how shes teaches the moves & stuff & runs courses, have you ever seen one of them? if not why not borrow one off somebody?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 16.03.05 12:10 UTC
I'm just saying what it reminds me of, Michelle. Not all circus people were fiends, you know - lots of them loved their animals and treated them very well. Maybe if I'd never seen the circus dogs I wouldn't think of it that way - but you can't change history.
:)

WHY DONT DOGS MAKE GOOD DANCERS?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 17.03.05 13:14 UTC
Because they can't read the instructions?

Sorry, that's the punchline to "Why don't dogs make good jumpers"!!! :D :D :D
- By maysea [gb] Date 17.03.05 13:15 UTC
