How fantastic was Crufts this year :)

Really really enjoyed it and the little Norfolk Terrier came out tops followed by the English Setter :)

I really wanted the Shiba to win although i thought it would have been the Schnauzer- what presence that dog had :)

Well done to them all :D

- By Dawn-R Date 13.03.05 21:11 UTC
Thing is, there's going to be a ship load of 'where can I get a Norfolk Terrier' posts.

- By TEILO [gb] Date 13.03.05 23:16 UTC
Well do not think that will be the case with Norfolks, they are like gold
to get hold of. as there are only about 500 born each year,, and only
about 150 Norwich.
- By lel [gb] Date 13.03.05 21:11 UTC
Hi Dinah- they are fine thanks :D

Hope yours are well too- I need more pics :D :D

I so wanted the Shiba to win or the Belgian as it was 10 years old and I'm a sentimental old fool ;)

Really enjoyed watching it and will have to start putting some effort in for next year ;) :D

They were all gorgeous but was SO especially delighted to see the outstanding Tervueren bitch take the Pastoral Group in such style and totally belying her 10 1/2 years!   She is the dam of my own bitch and grandmother of my new hopeful - let's hear it for Ch India :P

Teri
and "Africa" who is so proud of Mum :D
- By lel [gb] Date 13.03.05 21:12 UTC
Hi terri

we posted at the same time :)

She was lovely and how lucky to have such fantastic breeding in your own bitch :)
- By Teri Date 13.03.05 21:16 UTC
:D  Thanks Lel, still crying here :D

We were supposed to be going with her daughter "Africa"  (linda's breeding is traditionally given call names of countries/places etc) but our girl decided to drop coat 3 weeks ago.  However on the form India was showing I don't think us being there would have made a big difference :P  -  except some hysterical screaming from me when she got pulled in the Group

Oh, on a high....

I know :(

When someone mentioned about Staffys never winning it made me glad in a way purely for that reason :(
- By gofaster [gb] Date 13.03.05 21:29 UTC
did he really have to pick up the terrier by his tail there is no need for that
- By archer [gb] Date 13.03.05 21:41 UTC
Loved the Shiba but SOOOOOOS glad she didn't win.
Thought the winner was well deserved

It really loved it  though didnt it ( showing in the big ring i mean ) not being picked up by its tail !
It looked so happy, i couldnt really make out what the handler was saying though.
I was rooting for the Beagle!
- By Anndee [gb] Date 13.03.05 21:44 UTC
I agree Gofaster. I thought exactly the same, when I saw him do it. Its such an old fashioned way of handling.
- By digger [gb] Date 13.03.05 22:19 UTC
I agree - it's a dog with a tail, not a teapot with a handle.....
- By Gillie [gb] Date 13.03.05 22:48 UTC
very well said!!
- By Gillie [gb] Date 13.03.05 22:16 UTC
I thought that too! I couldnt believe my eyes - and he just dropped him onto the floor!
- By Trevor [gb] Date 14.03.05 06:25 UTC
Yeah - just fantastic - bet Linda floated home  :D :D

What an acheivement to win the group at 10 years - still we both know that a good Belgian is like a fine wine - just keeps on getting better with age :)

Yvonne

P.S. Did Discover Dogs on saturday - HUGE interest in the breed - not sure if thats good or bad
- By Lindsay Date 14.03.05 08:06 UTC
I was thrilled to see a Tervueren in the final line up, does anyone remember the beautiful Vallivue Bon Chance taking the ring by storm ages ago? He was amazing, totally a showman and so beautiful.

India was stunning and so deserved to get through!

...."HUGE interest in the breed.."

I hate to say it, but I don't want too many peeps to show interest for obvious reasons...

I loved the little Norfolk  Cocoa, what a little personality. If i ever get too old and doddery for Belgians, I might consider one of those!

Isnt it sad when we have to hope a breed doesnt become too *popular* :(
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 14.03.05 15:23 UTC
I thought that Coco was wonderful too, a real character and really seemed to enjoy it's two days of showing at Crufts.  The Terv. well, what can I say, outstanding.  The Chi.  not my fav.toy, shouldn't say that as I know Carol and Aimee, but well done Aimee on doing so well :d

I thought that all the dogs looked great in the line-up and actually thought that it was the best Crufts line-up that I'd seen for many a year.

Wonder if to be in the top two it was quoted that their names had to end in Co ?  :d :d
- By lel [gb] Date 14.03.05 17:48 UTC
I agree, it was a cracking line up this year :)
- By Dusty [in] Date 15.03.05 19:52 UTC
The Norfolk was nice and i thought it was an intresting line up this year! More or less all the dogs in there werent favourites to win! Quite out standing that the top dog lat year didnt even win the breed :S!...just shows how unexpecting things can be! I did really want the shiba to win thou! Shes a lovely bitch and showed really well.

Is it just me or recently is there more and more dogs abroad starting to win?! Maybe judges are getting braver when it comes to picking the 'faces'.

Also did anyone see the bitch winner in giant schnauzers, i think she was from belgium and was undocked, was extremly nice!!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 15.03.05 20:04 UTC
And both dog and bitch CC winners in American Cockers were undocked!
:)
- By ange [gb] Date 16.03.05 11:43 UTC
I shouted at the telly when the winner was picked up by its tail, I don't think my goldens would have liked that very much. I thought the setter should have won.
- By vivian [gb] Date 16.03.05 12:09 UTC
You didn't see the bit on tele where he put him in the cup, poor little might jumped out and did a flip onto the table on his side, and then got picked up again and had to pose for the camera. Im not saying it's cruel as I guess his used to it, but I wouldn't pick mine up like it. Viv
- By lube [gb] Date 16.03.05 13:48 UTC
I thought the Shiba showed really well and thought she was outstanding. She would have been my choice for the winner.  Although I also liked the Norfolk and was quite happy that she won. I didn't like the way the handler picked her up with the lead and the tail. I haven't seen that done for years.

Was thrilled that Coco won, she clearly loved being on show.  What a happy little dog.  I always want the terriers to do well.
- By hairyones [in] Date 16.03.05 20:35 UTC
I Think the Shiba is a stunnig little bitch, would have been my definate winner in that line up! Although if the Rottweiler (Rolex Rumour Has It By Fantasa) would have been in there he would have got it, would of loved him to win BOB and the Group What a shame the judges didn't agree :( there's always next year i supose! What a great ambassador for the breed he is!
- By Molly1 [gb] Date 16.03.05 22:13 UTC
And how lucky Liz Dunhill is to own both of these outstanding dogs.
- By Moonmaiden Date 16.03.05 22:20 UTC
Its not all luck with Liz she has bred some stunning dogs  & it is knowing which dogs match on pedigrees etc & Liz has always had a good eye for dogs from them being puppies. Breeding dogs of high quality takes a lot of work & a small amount of luck. Her dogs are always shown in superb condition
- By Anndee [gb] Date 16.03.05 22:42 UTC
For Dusty.
Was it shown on TV, the giant Schnauzer bitch with a tail :D? Or did you see it in person, so to speak? If it was on TV I must go back through my video recordings, as I would love to see it. I must have missed seeing that when I was watching it all on video. I was hoping the Giant would have won this year :( Used to own one but I swore I wouldn't have another docked one. so until I could show one with a tail and not get penalized.(Totally abhorr taildocking) I wouldn't have one. Maybe the time is coming that I could get another and show it without getting put down for having a tail :D
- By Dusty [in] Date 17.03.05 07:57 UTC
Hiya,
I saw it from the ringside being shown, i really thought it was going to get BOB!

Liz is a very talented breeder, she definatly knows her stuff! and it couldnt just be 'luck' for her to breed so many good dogs. She didnt just breed top stuff over night, she just took the time and effort to get her breeding as good as it is today!

Hi,

I made a point of going to check out  the undocked americans (as i was there with that breed myself) and i can honestly say both were stunning dogs.   owner spoke hardly a word of english as was from sweden so i couldnt get any tips on diet LOl :o(
