Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / American dogs at Crufts such as Dobes?
- By Guest [gb] Date 14.03.05 13:27 UTC
Hi, I actually registered but am having a problem with my cookies, apparently! So until hubby comes home to sort it I thought I'd ask here.

Now that there are American dogs competing at Crufts, I wondered what happens in the case of someone wanting to exhibit a cropped ear breed, such as the Dobermann? Would that be not allowed as ear cropping is illegal over here?

Thanks in advance for any answers. :-)

I think it is against KC rules to show a dog that has had its ears cropped no matter which country it is from :)

If a dog of any breed is cropped it cannot be shown KC R&R B3.25/10(c)Provision-No such dog with cropped ears shall be eligible to take part in any Kennel Club activity

Dont think it would pass the breed standard they arent born with their ears cropped it would be like trying to show a dog with its leg chopped off.

By the same token, I think I'm right in saying that UK dogs that were docked, after a certain date, are not elligible for shows in mainland Europe, or is is Scandinavia? Those docked prior to that certain date, can be exhibited. Get that red book out again Moonmaiden, am I right?

It's all about the laws of the land in the country of the show.

This from the KC site on showing dogs abroad at this time
<When choosing which shows to enter, it is very important to bear in mind the specifics of exhibiting in certain countries.............. Another point to remember is that the docking of dogs' tails is illegal in some parts of Europe and therefore not all countries allow the exhibition of docked dogs. Similarly, in some countries it is not permissible to show a dog which has been neutered. You will also need to familiarise yourself with the group system and breed names, which may both differ considerably from that in the United Kingdom.>

Ithink the banning on docked tails for the FCI is in 2006
