Topic Other Boards / Foo / Car Problem - Advice Needed!!

I bought a car just over a month ago and had it serviced on Saturday.  It came back from its service and I was told that the Clutch was worn and slipping and that the Rear anti-roll bar bushes were worn and knocking.  The mechanic said that he was surprised that the car had been sold to me like this.

I was given a warranty when I bought the car but have looked through it and it says that clutches are not covered by the warranty.  The mechanic said that I should still take it back to them as I've done less than 1000 miles since getting the car which proves that it was in a bad state when I bought it.

What should I do?  Do you think its worth me calling them and seeing if they'll do the work under the warranty or should I just try and find the money and get it done myself?  I hate confrontations which is why I'm not looking forward to calling the garage - I think they're just going to turn around and say that its not their problem!!  :-(

do you know anyone who doesnt mind confrontations that you could take with you? - i definitely think you should go back and complain if it was sold to you in such a bad state - the words Trading Standards often help

Hiya - no I don't really know anyone who would do it for me, OH prefers to leave the difficult talking to me

Do you know if there are any rules anywhere about what state a car can be sold in?  I know that its my fault for not getting it properly checked before buying it but the mechanic on Saturday said that it shouldn't have been sold with the clutch as it is.

I just want to see if I can get that verified before I contact them so that I have some ammunition - otherwise they'll laugh me right out of the place probably!!

The warranty by the way is a total waste of time - one sentence sums up the components covered and a page and a half sums up whats excluded :-(

Well I just phoned them and the bloke was actually quite nice.  He gave me the number of a garage for them to look at the problems.  The garage will then report back to him and we'll talk further!!

I've booked it in for Wednesday morning 9am and hope that they'll be nice to me and it'll all be sorted with us co-operating!!!

Am I just wishful thinking?!?!

Hello Charanda,

Have you spoken to the salesman? Have you spoken to the warranty company? I know alot of questions but I do work for a Franchise.lol

Hi Emma!!  How are you?

Thanks for replying.  I've had a look at my warranty and it says (in small writing) That I understand that the warranty is an agreement between myself and the Supplying Dealer and that they will only get involved if there is a disagreement between myself and the SD.

I've spoken to the Supplying Dealer and they've asked me to take the car to the garage to be looked at.  Once they've received the report back from the garage they will then speak to me more.

I have noticed that the warranty excludes Complete clutch assemblies which I presume means that its not going to cover it but I'm going to try and play on the fact that its dangerous and as such should never have been sold in that condition.

Do you think that sounds right?

Thanks again!!  :-)
