I'm THRILLED the shiba inu won the group. She was absolutely gorgeous. :)  Just sat & watched in on TV. My daughter & I took one look at her and were rooting for her all the way.
- By mygirl [gb] Date 11.03.05 20:39 UTC
I agree the shibu inu isnt my breed but she was stunning :) we were rooting for her here too.
- By archer [gb] Date 11.03.05 20:40 UTC
SHE IS STUNNING!!! Being a shiba owner we were routing for her too but thought the min poodle would get it.

I am totally gutted the dalmatian didnt get it especially as Bob Gregory had given him BOB previously. Total shock (nice shock not the horrible kind) for us that he got BOB to start with although he has won BOB 2 times previously at crufts.  Got to admit though it was a very strong group and all of those shortlisted would have made worthy winners.

I have literally fallen in love with the shiba, I remember seeing them last year. But couldnt remember the name of them. she had the most beautiful face

What are they like, they are not a dog you hear alot about.
Thanks

Will l PM you. They are not an easy breed and can be very dominant esp towards smaller breeds.

Dont know much about the breed personally but have a friend who has bred them and although she loves them dearly she will freely admit they are not an easy breed and definately not for the inexperienced.  She found they were very dominant and didnt mix well with her other breed.  So not a breed to buy without doing a lot of research

I know a couple of malamute breeders who also breed Shiba on the continent, the two breeds seem to get along well together. I love reading the shiba history/origins it's fascinating. You just can't fault them. A lovely breed. :)

Not usually my type of dog - but that Shiba is gorgeous :)

Would love to see a Dally in the final - or a Dane :( Neither of my favourite breeds ever get through :(
- By kazz Date 11.03.05 22:24 UTC
But up until today the Shiba fraternity would have said the same thing Chloe ie "My fav breed never gets through" Wouldn't they? so you never know this is an interesting Crufts to say the least the Beagle the Shiba!

You never know Karen
- By Spook [gb] Date 11.03.05 22:28 UTC
It would be nice to see something out of the norm coming out on top.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 11.03.05 22:29 UTC
I always hope my fave breed doesn't get through! Although I can't see why other people don't think they're the bestest ever breed ;) , it's usually a disaster for any breed to get BIS. All the puppy farmers etc jump on the bandwagon, and it can take many years to get the breed back to the condition it was in before.

Fab Willy didnt do anything after the cut - from a TT (amongst others) Breeder/judge. Should we read anything into that? Resounding YES :D
- By Fillis Date 11.03.05 23:28 UTC
I believe the Basenji breeders "closed ranks" after the success of their breed at Crufts. They worked together to ward off the wannabe owners, and luckily the owner/handler refused to sign all the publicity agreements etc thrust under his nose when he won the group.

Dont think one ever will in the foreseeable future JG so you have nothing to fear I have seen Paddy (ch Doctor Fox by Salsusa) up close and believe me he is very hard to fault.  Not campaigned as he should have been or would have been a truly great dog.  Last time he got BOB at Crufts he got shortlisted and it was a shame that a dog that good didnt get rewarded with a shortlisting at least.  His handler was 8 months pregnant running around that ring so did really well.

Still give Bob Gregory his due he had to make some very hard decisions and I certainly wouldnt have wanted to make the decision as to who was going to win.  And I still love him because he gave Molly a RCC so he cant be all bad :)

I bet Julia was thrilled that her BoB made the cut!

I was front row watching utitlity group and was totally wanting min poodle to win as have a bet on at bookies for it to win BIS. Though TT would be its main rival, but it dropped its tail and was totally spooked, it didnt look too bad when I watched video on tv tonight but in reality you couldnt possibly have forgiven it, I felt really sorry for its owner.  But  have to say the Shiba deserved to win as it was stunning and to be totally honest it put on a better show than poodle.  Really thought the poodle would go all the way as group judge had previously given him Ch show BIS and BIS judge quite often puts up poodles.  But hey, its the dog on the day and the Shiba definately deserved it, it has the most gorgeous head and eye and moved superbly.

I'm not sure whether a BIS would make a huge amount of difference to the dally popularity - they are already popular with Disney to blame and everyone already knows a dally. I would say its worse for those breeds that aren't as popular and perhaps don't have such a supportive/effective breed club and rescue in existance?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.03.05 09:05 UTC
The last time a dalmatian took BIS (1968) registrations jumped from 2348 the year before to 3218 - an increase of nearly 50%. :( After the first cartoon was released in 1961 registration jumped from 1122 to 1448 - not so great a leap.
