I'm so sorry to hear that things have gone so sadly wrong - you were looking forward to your litter so much as well :( .    Sadly, it's something all of us dread.

Do hope everything goes well from now on - fingers crossed for your last baby.

- By Teri Date 11.03.05 22:30 UTC
Sharon,

I am so very sorry to read what's happened :(   I know you were really excited, nervous, full of anticipation - all the things any of us are, especially with a first litter and you must be so upset and worried about the little surviving puppy.  I hope she and mum are doing well - look after yourself too, this has been a trauma for you all.

Best wishes and sending {{hugs}}

Great news Sharon,

"Tia" is a lovely name - and I can tell already that she's going to be a very precious pup in your life.

Keep us posted on her progress and give the proud mum a gentle tickle under the chin from me ;)

Regards, Teri

The same thing has just happened to us when we took Fern to the vets on Thursday evening. She started panting and digging from 2 am on Thursday morning and things didn't seem quite right so we her took the vets and she ended up having a C section straightaway. We lost 6 puppies and only 1 survived. Like you I haven't had much sleep recently as I have  been sleeping downstairs with her since last Saturday. I had to bottle feed the pup on the first night and Fern would only sleep on the settee still zonked out. I  had to put the pup on her to feed but today (Saturday) her maternal instincts have at last kicked in and is now in her whelping box  cuddling and feeding her pup. I do however still have to "toilet" him as Fern won't lick as yet i.e to encourage him to go.We were going to keep a bitch puppy but like you he is staying with us forever.all the best to the three of you and hope every thing turns out OK my thoughts are with you

Hi Debra,

Gosh you've been through the mill too :(  Poor Fern, I hope she's feeling better soon - it must be such an ordeal for them, particularly when having had to go through a section.  Glad your little guy is doing well - and that he's got his forever home already too.

Gentle {{hugs}} to them both,
and good luck,  Teri :)

hi debra
im sorry to hear about your loss also it,s really hard on the bitch
and us ,i have tryed to figure out y us. when you think of what happend to
our pets when all the stray dogs have litters all the time and they run about
the streets as their owners don,t care what happens to them then their people
like all of us that love and adore our animal but most time we are left broken hearted.
but we all know that we love and care about our dogs and give them a grate life as their just like our children i suppose that the other people who don,t care will get what they deserve in the end
                    thanx sharon
- By sharonb [gb] Date 13.03.05 09:45 UTC
Yep I felt just the same when we lost ours. All these poor dogs who dont get cared for go on to have a lovely healthy litter of pups who in turn may not get cared for.
Its just a sad fact of life.
All the best to you both.
- By Blue Date 13.03.05 11:23 UTC

- By SharonM Date 13.03.05 20:02 UTC
Please keep a very close eye on her, my vet told me not to force the bottle feeding and let them suckle from mum as it would encourage her milk to come in, well it never did and within 3 days we had lost 3 pups!  Persevere with the bottle feeding, once Tia realises it's food she'll enjoy it...........I hand reared 5 of the remaining pups, they all struggled and refused to start, it's a pain staking job, but definitely worth it when they all start gaining weight and getting stronger.

Good luck!
- By palaminouk [gb] Date 13.03.05 21:21 UTC
thanx
sharon i will persevere with her as i have had enough heart ache
to do me a life time .i have also been soringing mind the spelling lol some food also just incase
you never know what happen,s at lease i no she,s getting some milk that way
will let you know in the morning
                                          thanx

We also lost our only two pups after a c-section recently, I know how you must be feeling, you wonder what you could have done differently, etc. I was very worried about my girl going through surgery as she is high risk being a Mastiff, but thankfully she is absolutely fine. I hope people out there considering breeding their girls, think very carefully about what can go wrong, there is a LOT of heartache out there and sometimes despite our best efforts, pups and (mothers sometimes) die. Its a very sad fact of life......I for one know that after my loss it will be a long long time before I consider raising a litter again if ever :( . Thank goodness that you have one suvivor and I really hope she thrives I am sending positive thoughts and hugs your way! Best of luck :)

- By Megsmum [gb] Date 16.03.05 11:10 UTC
Hi Sharon no I don't think I will breed her again we used to breed boxers only had a litter to keep 1 ourselves the last litter we had was 12 years ago and the pup Pip we kept was a little madam and we decided not to breed her we have another bullmastiff Meg we tried mating her but she was having non of it so we brought Fern so we have waited a long time for these puppies only to have this heartbreak I don't think I could go through it again.

Hi Sharon,

So glad that Tia is doing well - thanks for keeping everyone updated.  Things started off so bleakly for you and now you sound so much happier and of course Tia is clearly much treasured.

A happy ending after all, very best wishes

Great news on Tia.. Little fighter.

Breeding is tough at times.

I had a little of 2 just before Xmas lost one ( a boy) and had to bottle feed the other ( a girl) I gave her a name right away also ( Abbey)  as was so determined she would make it. She is now 18 weeks old.
