Sorry really stupid question!!! but......

How do I get my towels soft and fluffy, I use softener etc but they always dry hard and aren't cosy against the skin!!!

Thanks!!!x:D

Either dry them in a tumble dryer OR give them a really good shake before hanging them on the line :)

Always worked with terry nappies ;)

Thank you, I usual just hang them on the clothes horse so I'll have to Tumble dry!!!!

:)

or you could dry them on the clothes horse then pop them in the tumble for five minutes to fluff them up.

Now I know this sounds crazy but - pop a wet towel in the freezer, let it freeze solid - then hang out to dry!!

Now that does sound crazy!!! I'd give it a go but unfortunately I have a tiny freezer so a towel would never fit!

In the old, old days of terry-towelling nappies, if they were hung out on the line and would freeze, when they were brought in & dried, they were fluffier and softer than any amount of fabric conditioner or tumble drier ever produced!

They don't recommend that you use fabric conditioner on towels - basically, it coats the fabric which prevents it becoming as absorbant as it should. Yes it smells nice but you'll find they are fluffier if the fibres aren't stuck together with conditioner.
I just tumble dry.

Im such a terrible housewife!!!

Some one should write a book of secrets for the uneducated in the home!!

Thanks for all the info, didn't know about the softener I always use tons of the stuff!

I used to use it too, it was only when our old towels became so useless at drying that we had to buy some new ones that we found out. The lady in the shop told me !.

well I never knew that and I just popped home at lunch and put the towel wash on with stacks of fabric conditioner

I had heard that putting a couple of tennis balls in the tumble dryer would help to make them fluffy. Never tried as all our tennis balls ahve dog slobber on them :D

Oh those good old days - I'd forgotten about that :) Frozen nappies :)

In the days before tumble-dryers and fabric conditioner, we just had 'scrubby' towels, as my mother called them - she still prefers them to fluffy ones :)

Yes - remember bringing them in, holding one corner & they still stuck out like flags :D

These young folk .... they just don't know what they are missing .....frostbite, chilblains, etc etc etc :D

Being sent home from school early because of the 'smog' - could hardly see how to go home :D

I don't think you can beat the smell of clean nappies that have frozen over night (weird aren't I? LOL!)
- By jackyjat [gb] Date 11.03.05 18:00 UTC
No not weird at all digger, I know just what you mean!  AND I like "scrubby towels" too!

The better quality towel you start with, the easier they are to keep fluffy though.
