Hello to one and all! I stumbled across this site by chance a couple of days ago and have been enthralled by the information, banter and if truth be told...shed a few tears whilst reading some posts at Rainbow Bridge. I think this site looks to be a place I'll come to regularly.
I am now lucky enough to be in the position (finally) to own a Newfie...I grew up with these lovely dogs and have always hankered after having one of my own...but my circumstances were never right. My partner and I completed our dream home...a beautiful Steading conversation...just over a year ago, so now I have not only the time and money but also the space to accomdate my Newf! We have a lot of land, a beach and several forest walks nearby...
I have taken my time to find a breeder who I think could be the one (so to speak) she called me three weeks ago to say the girls (6) and boys (4) arrived into this world safely. I'm waiting for her to get back in touch shortly to arrange a trip down to see them - I cant wait.
Are there any other Newfoundland owners out there?
Hi Claireybell, welcome to CD! It's an interesting place to be: yes there are disagreements, but the wealth of information far outweighs any of the bad points! I'll warn you though, it can be addictive!
As you can probably tell from my user name, spaniels are more my game-I have 4 (English Springer, American cocker & 2 cockers-show and working type) but there are 2 Newfies that are walked in our local park and they are lovely looking dogs and are always lovely natured! Good luck with getting your pup! :)

Hi Claireybell congrats on getting a newfie..........they are the best dogs but then I am biased as I have a beautifull black girl called Izzy and hopefully will be getting a brown in about a years time.

Hi Claireybell,
Welcome to the Forum :) Your new set up sounds just the ideal environment for a Newfie - rural, spacious and the biggest plus of all being beside WATER :D :D :D
Very best wishes,
Teri
Thank you for the warm welcome!

Hi Claire :)
I dont own newfies but wanted to say welcome to the site :D
Excellent!! A puppy-hugging-pizza-party in my posh new pad, I laughed out loud at that!! I'm sure a few of my friends would love that...could a girl ask for more? Lots of puppy hugs and pizza to scoff!! Yum!
You dont need to own a Newfie just to speak to me ;-) it helps though! What kind of dogs do you have Lel?

Claire
Im owned by two daft staffys :D called Libby and Gus :) and a cat called Noodle :)
Lel,
Staffies are wonderful dogs too, right little characters! Well I now own a cat too, which is really bizarre coming from someone who is hugely allergic and totally not a "cat person"! However, in the circumstances it was all we could do to adopt Bradley! Next door to our steading stayed a lovely old couple S and his wife B who helped us no end with the house build...nicer neighbours you could not find! Tragically on 18th January this year we found S had died suddenly - we were the first to find him. His wife suffers from dementia and is now in a home as the family cannot care for her. This couple owned the aforementioned cat who is sort of half ferral...a true hunter who is hardly ever inside. The family were struggling to find a home and the local cats protection didnt have anyone suitable so we adopted him...we've put in a cat flap to our garage door, bought him a bed and all the essentials and now he's really settled in...and has become really affectionate too (as long as I wash my hands after petting him I'm ok). This cat was apparently ill treated when young, he has a "wonky" eye, and we really didnt want him uprooted when he's so familiar with his hunting ground :) and we felt it was a nice thing to do for S and B...who are sorely missed!
