For long haired dogs (I have Rough Collies!), has to be the Miele Cat & Dog - superior suction over Dyson I 'test drove' before I bought ............

Hi

I have a Dyson (purple) with the Animal attachment. Its very good but I haven't test driven any others. This is my second Dyson (upright) and I love them.

I have to say I threw out our Miele Cat & Dog and got a Dyson. Far better as far as I'm concerned.

Have to agree.... Dyson's Animal seems to be better than all others used to date (Kirby and Miele). Have a look at
http://www.dyson.co.uk/range/feature_frame.asp?model=DC07-ANIMAL
Best of luck!!!!!

Yep, I have to agree, Dyson DC07 Animal, best hoover ever made, I've 5 dogs and 4 kids it works miracles :-)

What I also like about Dyson is any part break or get damaged in the first 2 years, they send out replacements free of charge really quick too!

So glad somebody mentioned this...

It's been getting ridiculous with my old hoover, what with 2 sheps and 2 cats, all moulting...it's driving me mad!!

mmm, tis a never ending debate the hoover issue.

I have a Vax Luna 1300, which does both wet and dry. tis not an upright model, but i find it excellent, very powerful suction, the brush tool is fantastic, the wet mode cleans both carpets and hard floors, (though, dont mix up hard floor cleaner with carpet cleaner!), and, i got it off my local market, as it was a second, cos it has a scratch on the front, for approx half the marked price, only £85!! cant beat that, an, if it does die in a year, which i doubt, its not half as expensive to replace as some!

in fact, no matter wot model u choose, its definatley worthwhile going an loooking at stalls taht do shop soiled/ show models, etc, usually for ridiculously cheap prices.

Hehehehe, now all i need to do is use it a bit more often!

I have a Petmaster hoover.
It is great works with water collecting the dirt etc. Easy to use and picks up so much more than the dyson I used to have.
I know of a few people (me included ) who had nothing but trouble with a dyson and threw them out.

After getting through three Dysons in as many years I bought a Meile Dog & Cat have found it great. We don't have as many carpets these days though, gradually going over to hard floors as the carpets need replacing, best decision we have ever made.

Looks like it is about 50/50 so far on which type, bet you are even more confused now.

We had a DC03 that we ran into the ground - fixed enough to be okay for upstairs, where only the cat is allowed. We bough the Dyson Animal for downstairs and the stairs, boy, does it have suction, before we had the study carpet replaced it was sucking up the old carpet tiles!!!

Wouldn't swap it for the world, although it is really heavy

After getting through vacuum cleaners at the rate of about 1 every 2 or 3 years , we bought a Kirby upright vacuum cleaner. Horrendously expensive but I have had it now for about 8 years so it has paid for itself already :)

Have no problems getting LOTS of Malamute hair picked up every day ;)

Hi,

With four Malamute's I was struggling with my old wet/dry Vax and it was hard work too. Thank God for QVC and they had an ORECK lightweight upright vacuum cleaner which you have a 30 money back guarantee and it was on 2 easy payments (no interest charge). With it you get a cylinder (oblong) vacuum with attachments for all the awkward places.

Sent for it, got it and used it and I can do my carpets in five minutes no effort and it really gets all the hairs off and out of the carpet (brings up the pile too). You know how it is people phone up and want to visit and you immediatley grab the vacuum cleaner, well you can and it's brilliant plus you are not exhausted when they arrive.

With 30 day money back guarantee you can't go wrong.

My mum ordered a Dyson back in April through her Kays catalogue and has just returned it as she has had to have the engineer out twice to it already, she has no animals and lives on her own so it hasn't been overworked!!!!

I bought a small Daewoo cylinder cleaner 4 years ago for £29 from Comet and it's still going strong despite the Munsters best efforts to shed hair at a record rate. Maybe not brilliant for small crevices etc. but it does the job and thats all I care about! :D

We have the Dyson DC10 (or it could be the Dyson DC010) Motorhead. The wife says it's great. It is a pull along type. The Motorised head is great for getting hari from the carpet. It cost us (18months ago) about £320, we bought the extra insurance at £50. Teenage grandson uses it and managed to drop it down the stairs twice, damage the motorised head twice and break the cylinder tube, just once. Witht he ins you are covered for accidents (even those caused by a teenager). Dyson have been brill andnever questioned the new parts needed. The parts arrive within a couple of days or the engineer comes out.

We even hoover the dog with the small suction brush attachment, the wife says there is no point in brushing the dig and then hoovering it up when you can do it in one go!.

I had the motorhead cylinder type before the dc07 animal, but 'my opinion' of it I can't type on here without getting banned for bad language..........lol. I ended up giving it to my sister as a spare, it cost me a fortune too, I love my DC07 animal best hoover ever!

When I first bought my dc05 motorhead I thought it worked wonders until I had the DC07 Animal. The motorhead broke 3 times in the first year on the DC05 :-( it seems there is a weakness in the neck of the motorhead!
- By slmiddleton [gb] Date 12.07.03 14:44 UTC
I've just bought a DC05 motorhead (which is the cylinder type). It's fantastic. Before I got it, I heard people say that they were amazed how much dust it got out of the carpets the first time they used it. I had used my old cleaner on the lounge carpet the previous day, then my dyson arrived. I cleaned the carpet with it, and yes, I was totally amazed at how much muck was still in the carpet. I did the rest of the house and had to empty it a total of three times!
It is much easier, quicker and more efficient than any vacuum I have used before. I would certainly recommend it on my experience so far - but I can't comment on reliability yet.

Hi I am desperate for a Miele telescopic rod for the Electric Plus to power the turbo brush.Broke mine!!!
I rang Miele they want a LOT of money, enough to almost render me speechless so if anyone is dumping their old one please let me know.........Either that or I have to buy new vac. Its served me well 2 cats long haired dog........I cannot make up my mind another Miele good but company is vile or the Dyson???
Or get rid of pets!!!!

I suggest that you consider the Dyson DC04 upright vacuum cleaner. It only costs around £130 on the internet, so you do not have to invest too much to have one.
We have 8 Golden Retrievers and it handles the hairs from them okay.

The Dyson animal is very expensive, is based on the same technology as the DC04, but costs more than twice as much.

We bought a DC07 Animal from Comet for £199  I searched around and that was the cheapest we could find it.  We put off buying a dyson for years but then thought that with 7 dogs in the house, we HAD to.  Never regretted it! My carpets look like new!

I've still got my original Dyson DC01!
It's knocking on for 8 years old now and I have only had the engineer out to it once for something and nothing.

We do have more laminate floors now so I'm hoping it lasts me for a few more years yet.

I have both the miele cat and dog hoover and the dyson animal.  I like the miele but found that I went through a large number of bags.  Strange that really with two large dogs and two untidy children in the house!!  I bought the Dyson upright animal hoover from amazon as they had an offer on at Christmas.  I hated the machine as I found it very awkward to use and heavy in comparison to my cylinder miele.  I am now used to it and find that, in my opinion, the suction is excellent and being able to empty the hoover into the bin a real bonus.  I've gone from regretting buying it to really loving it.  Very sad that a hoover can induce such feeling of delight but there you have it!

Can only give my opinion on what I've had so far. :)

I had a Vax many yrs ago, I didn't get on with it as it didn't lift even half the hair from the carpets and soft furnishings. I even bought the turbo tool for it and it kept falling off.

Then I had a Dyson DC01, this I had for 8 yrs and it served me well, but the suction was going on it through wear and tear. I still have it and use it to hoover out my very hairy uncarpeted porch. It never went wrong.

At Christmas I bought the Dyson Animal 14. I got it for a very good price from my local Euronics centre, he dropped the price for me as I am a regular customer :) I have no complaints, good suction etc, but and this is a big but, because I have a very long haired dog, (his coat is 12 inches long) another pup who will have the same coat in a years time and a very densly coated GSD, after one whiz round with it, all of the long hair gets stuck solid in the brush underneath and before I can use it again, I have to take the brush out and use scissors to cut the hair (looks like a carpet) to get it out. This is a pain in the a***, it's bad enough hoovering everyday without haveing to do major surgery on the thing first. If I had short haired dogs, it would be prefect :)
