Now we have a solution to marking, next in the alphabet of Echo's Funny Little Habits is mounting other male dogs. Not castrated males, not pups or bitches but entire males. Thankfullly we have taught him that mounting humans is not the correct way to express affection for them. Now he is more relaxed around other dogs Ive been letting him say hello to steady dogs, keeping the check line handy in case of disaster, and find he sniffs happily then whips round the dogs back end and mounts - quicker than I can type! As I twitch the line and say OFF firmly, the other dog will tell him off ( rightly so!) he backs off or is tugged away before retaliating then the other dogs owner will yell at their own dog and give us a dirty look or pass helpful comments eg " You should have him neutered!" How do we help our dog behave more appropriately, as some friends who loved Morse can now be openly hostile to Echo and I or avoid us?

Can't help much, I'm afraid Lorelei - I think he's now trying to establish his "postion" (for want of a better word :D ) in the dog world now. I believe its typical of a rehomed one-time dog on the street - he would need to identify his position as top of the pack.
Just carry on as you are - maybe having a treat for him every time he sees another dog - before he starts.... -he's well in your heart - your friends are just taking longer to appreciate him.
