Hiya,
What is a dog lover's dog? I was talking to my mother in-law about my pup's show name and I asked her what her dogs names were, and she said that the giant schnauzer didn't have a show name because it was a dog lover's dog that they got from a kennel. Does this mean that the dog is from a puppy farm?
Sarah

Quite possibly :( , because 'Dog Lovers' is the registry used by puppy farmers.

The dog could be from a puppy farm, Dog lovers is a registrtion which is cheeper then the KC but isn't worth a penny! It's just a way to get people to part with money and makes people they believe they have a registerd dog when they don't, not really!

It just means that the dog was *registered* with the Dog Lovers Club. Unfortunately, this registration doesn't give any guarantee of the dogs parentage or let it enter into any KC run shows. You can find out more about it by typing the name of the club into the search engine here on the site :)
Oh I just got told by my partner that she came from 'Dogs R Us' in Manchester, that doesn't sound like a happy place. I'm interested to know about her because we looked after her a few weeks ago and I think she has serious confidence problems and she urinates everytime she sees someone (she's 2), I was just wondering whether she had had a traumatic start to life.
Sarah

She could just have a weak bladder. In one of my breeds it tends to be common for bitches from a certain line to have accidents when they get excited. It's very annoying, they have to meet everyone outside. This to could work if she is nervous. Might be worth a check up at the vets though.
Unfortantly dogs R us is not a nice place :( This could mean alot of problems in this dog because they are not bred by breeders who care :(
The in-laws want to go there at the weekend to get some toys for the dogs but I'm not sure I could handle going if it means seeing alot of puppies in cages. I totally disagree with it and I'm not sure I could hide my opinions from the mother in-law!
Sarah

Unfortunately all puppies which come from pet shops have a traumatic start, because 99 times out of a hundred they're taken from their mothers far too young and transported many miles (sometimes even from Ireland) in unsuitable conditions and exposed to illness. And each one bought condemns another bitch and litter to misery. :(

Hi this place has recently been discussed here http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/topic_show.pl?pid=247029;hlm=subject;hl=Dogs%20r%20Us#247029
Not the best start a puppy could have.

Whats wrong with toys from pets at home or somewhere else!

I certainly wouldn't give a place like that my money!

One of the worst aspects of this place too, is that pups bought from there are often used, (I was told by one couple who bought their pup from there but later learnt better) and encouraged toi breed from theri pet, that they will put tehm in touch with a suitable stud, and buy the whole litter from them.
In my own breed we have heard of several bitch pups bought from there being used as puppy machines :(

Awful place,a couple near by bought a lab pup from dogs r us,and she is very shy and has made herself sore with chewing herself,my hairdresser told me he went the other week and came out crying seeing all the puppies in cages, god bless the poor little souls.
Sheila.
When we were looking into which breed would be best for us I was told that the easiest place to get Samoyeds, Akitas, Border Collies, fairly much any terrier, labs and golden retrievers was 'Dogs R Us', I can't believe these people are breeding without any knowledge, apart from the fact that it is incredibly cruel some of these dogs are very big dominant powerful dogs that shouldn't be in the hands of someone who goes along on a Saturday and impulse buys a puppy. Isn't there any law against selling puppies like they are a comodity?

I can assure you they dont have many of the terrier breeds - many of these are on the endangered list, but they do have plenty of Westies and Cairns
