Hi everyone,
I'm a new member and wondered if anyone owns, or has experience of lemon spotted Dalmatians. My partner has a beautiful 5 year old bitch called Ellie, I've never seen any other lemon spotted Dals, in fact I'd never even heard of them until I met Ellie! I know they're classed as a breed fault but we love Ellie all the same :)
I'd be interested to hear any replies or experiences...
Alice

As you know, the only colours accepted by the standard are black and liver. However occasionally oyher colours turn up - many of which can be seen
here. You'd be surprised how many people get lemons and oranges confused (lemons have black noses and pigmentation, whilst oranges have liver. It's the other way about in the US, just to add to the confusion!).
:)
Thanks for the website, that was really informative- I didn't know there were other colours like brindles & long haired dals, very interesting. Ellie definitely has black pigmentation. Do you have dalmatians?

Yes, I have 4. Two liver bitches, one liver dog and a black dog.
:)
Wow, you must have your hands full with 4! What are their names / ages? Do you find that they are quite scatty dogs? Ellie is, I'm not sure if its anything to do with her being a lemon spotted Dal, or just a trait of the breed, but she does seem to be crazier than other Dals that i've met! :) We have a rescue labrador as well who is very calm and quiet compared to Ellie. :)

Dals are generally scatty! My oldest girl, Clover, is 12 and has started to settle down now. Her daughter Beattie (10) is still barmy, and as for Clover's sons Harry and Piglet (5) ...

!
JG can you blame a dog for being bonkers when you have named it Piglet and I was told I was mad for naming mine Tigger!
Got to agree though the ones that are quiet and well behaved are in the minority but would we have them any other way!
ah Thoms-the-spot - I had a cat calle Piglet, mind you he was a bit bonkers too.
Anything that comes to live with me is bonkers. They do so animals are a reflection of your personality so that could explain a lot :)
Hi Jeangenie,
Lovely names! :) Ah well I'm glad to know its not just Ellie being scatty, has Clover only just started to settle down? I don't know if Ellie ever will, but like the other poster said I wouldn't want her any other way! Do anyone else's dalmatians get scared of certain silly things? Ellie doesn't like the windscreen wipers in my car, and she also backs away when i try and take her picture with my phone - think she's just camera shy !! Do you show your Dals or breed from them? (don't worry i'm not at all interested in breeding - just nosy!!) :)

Yes, I used to show the dals, but retired the girls at about 6 years old, and since Harry had a toe amputated he's been out of the ring too. Piglet was never more than purely pet quality - he's our much-loved 'passenger'!
Clover was the last one I bought in; the others are pups from her two litters. One of Harry's daughters would be nice, but I can't see that happening. Because I'm not showing him any more people don't know of him - and I'm fussy about the sort of bitch I'd mate him with! Never mind.
As for Clover settling down - the past few days she's been skipping about like a spring lamb and getting up to mischief (shredding the newspaper for a laugh!) and answering back - there's life in the old girl yet!
:)
I would like to see that page on lemon coloured dalmations, but all I get is.
The page cann't be displayed.
Piglet is such a cute name!!
My youngest dally Molly is scared stiff of fans in the summer. She just stands and barks and them. Mind you in all fairness she is a dog on the edge a bit like her owner :)

I have a dal called Tigger and I have his daughter called Tiger lily. In the litter that we have just bred we also have a lemon spotted bitch and I know that they aren't recognised by the kc but I have had more interest in her than any of my others, I even had one person think that she was some sort of really rare golden one. My male is scared of the snow and won't go out in it and tiger lily is scared of the fish tank light, she won't come in the room if its on but then she is a wuss anyway.

Hi Leanne - actually your lemon-spotted pup
can be registered (under 'colour' put 'white and lemon spots' - as long as she actually
is lemon and not orange - what colour is her nose?) and BAER tested along with the others. :) Of course it's vital that you place the endorsements on her registration (it's sensible to do that with all of them) and get the new owners to sign that they understand about the endorsements. Of course, being a mismark you probably won't be asking full price for her.
:)
Leanne you have made my day I have finally met another dalmatian owner who thought Tigger was a good name for a spotty dog. I think it suits them down to the ground as they bouncy flouncy fun fun fun!

I will not be asking anything for her as she is going to be a family dog here with us as I wouldn't want anyone to breed from her or sell her on as A RARE GOLDEN dalmatian. As for the name Tigger it just seemed appropriate as he was such a little nutter when we got him and the kids thought he acted like tigger off of winnie the pooh jumping up and down all the time!

Sorry forgot to say she has a black nose

With a black nose she is indeed a lemon - and congratulations for having the good sense to keep her safe from possible exploitation by keeping her yourselves!
They
are very much like Tiggers, aren't they?! And for years and years and years ... (I have a dalmatian called Piglet - CD is gradually getting a Winnie-the-Pooh set!)
:)
Aah the kids got involved with the naming thats my excuse. I prefered Dotty. Hubby is always calling Thomas a pile of Poo JG do you think that counts? :)

Sometimes when my lot return from a run in the field the smell of what they've rolled in precedes them and I say "Pooooooooohhhh!"

I tend to say "POOOOOH"! whenTigger passes wind cos he stinks, or when we've been walking on salisbury plain cos you can guarantee at least 2 of mine will have found some fox poo to roll in. Infact I think they purposely go looking for it
Hi I've just signed up and was doing a search for lemon dals, I have a beautiful 2yr old dal called Bailey....he's lemon and the most handsome fella

Enjoy your non standard boy. This colour is not acceptabel in the showring, and breeders would do their best to avoid producing one, but I am sure he is a wonderful pet :D
