Hello

I wonder if anyone might be able to offer me some advice.
Im 26 years old and have just recently found out that I have osetoarthritis in my lower back and hips.
Its very painful and I find some days its difficult to walk, sit and sometimes even lie down.
Its a nightmare getting to work on the train etc and as I work in central London driving is out of the question.

My doctor is very unsympathetic and told me to  "cry and get on with it" I've always been very sporty so it has been a severe blow to me.

Does anyone know of any herbal remedies or anything I can take to help, at the moment Im almost rattling with all the painkillers.

Im 26 and feel like Im 96 :(

How horrible for you. I'm so suprised by your doc's attitude - is he referring you to a specialist ?. My husband suffers too, although a different form. This website may be of help www.arc.org.uk

Hello

I've already seen the specialist and had an MRI scan etc...he said he was very surprised to see it in someone of my age.
All he bascially said was you'll have good days and bad days, on the bad days come and see me and I can give you a cortisone injection for the pain.

I was so upset, and cried my eyes out! I even struggle walking the dogs at the moment :(

I will have a look at the website though thank you !

Have you tried Green lip mussel you can get it from Holland and Barrett its disgusting but works my friend is using it for her GSD who even on steriods could only hobble now she can run, its not just for dogs.
Good luck

Hi Blondiflops :)

This is awful for you :(

When conventional medicine fails or is not fulfilling your needs you need to look elsewhere.

I have an ongoing severe health problem that causes no end of pain, some days it is bearable and other days I want to jump off the nearest cliff  Mine was diagnosed when I was 22. Although I took many different conventional treatments, they ended up causing more problems for me.

I consulted a qualified homeopathist. She took a full life history from me, likes, dislikes, etc, as well as medical issues from childhood and then took it from there. It's not a cure by any means but with managing my diet and following her advice it has definitely helped me. It can take a while before you see a significant difference. But in my case she was a life line.

Only a suggestion, but you may want to try it, I know some people don't have any success with it.

HTH :)

Thanks Hairypooch! I'll have a look for a Homeopath, might even be covered on my health insurance but I doubt it.

Im sorry that your health has suffered too....I guuess it is just finding a way to cope and get on with life as normally as possible.

The thing that annoys me is that I've always been so fit and healthy and I used to be a personal trainer, I thought exercise was meant to make your body strong and healthy not ruin it!!!

Never mind, it could be worse! :)

Thank you all for your replies.

Hi again Blondiflops :)

The initial consultation for a homeopath is usually the most expensive part and then the follow ups are reasonable. But obviously you will look at your health insurance first ;)

As part of my condition I suffer from stiffening of the joints, so I really sympathize with you, you should see me sometimes being dragged along by a hairy hearthrug and me stooped over like a little old women :P But if I don't stay active every day I seize up, I am the butt of family jokes  Oh well, at least while they're goading me, they're leaving someone else alone :D :D

There are the Cortaflex & Syn-Flex products to bear in mind too, I only know them as they are remedies for animals arthritis but they do produce human forms of these remedies too, a search on here wil help you as will sticking either into Google!

You poor thing, its such an awful thing, especially when your active, your body just won't do what you want it too.

I had a spell a few weeks ago whereas I couldnt even get out of bed, but Im back at work now.

Im definetly going to look into seeing a homeopath, my doctor was no help whatsoever and couldnt get me out of her office soon quick enough.

I get alot of stick too, everyone keeps calling me disabled!and sick note at work!!

There are some books around on diet for arthritis suffers you could probably get something off of Amazon.  My old Dandie did very well on New Zealand Green Lipped before it got to a very difficult level but I find I cannot take it or Chondroitin/Glucosamine without getting very queazy but I don't take well to shell fish, and maybe not sharks :), so it could be that.  I do manage a fair bit of oily fish in my diet and I'm sure that helps.

My mother had arthritis and had great improvement when she took the advice of a qualified herbalist. She was unable to walk without a stick and after taking her herbs, was able to walk without one.
I have a friend who is an ex deputy head - so a very stressful working day - and when she stopped working and retired, her arthritis became much more bearable.

Best wishes,
Lindsay

I've got cervical spondylosis and had exactly the same as you from the GP,r ather annoying as it was only the second time in 4 years that I'd bothered to go there.  Told to take pain killers and to put up with the pain, I had 4 months of hardly been able to lie down, same things happening now and not slept properly for nearly 2 weeks but I don't want to go to the GP as they are such a waste of time.

And to think, I work in a hospital too :d

My GP said much the same as yours,"take over the counter painkillers and learn to live with it."
But when it got so bad I could hardly walk, mine is in my knees and I was taking the maximum nos. of painkillers everyday,I went back for a second opinion with a new doctor and what a difference that made!
I now have prescribed anti-inflammatory tablets, which after 3 months have allowed me to stop taking the painkillers almost completely,I can now walk 5mile walks, with very little stiffness or pain and I feel 99% better! I also take a cod liver oil supplement and have lost weight with all the extra exercise I am now able to do! I found lavendar oil rubbed into the knee joints benefitted me when they were exceptionally sore and painful.
The arthritis tablets I am currently on though are being changed, due to some scare in the newspaper reports recently over anti-inflammatory drugs and possible heart problems, the new one ?Arthrocare, includes a protection for the stomach lining,so I hope they will be as good as the previous ones 'Celebrex.'

I would prefer to take homeopathic remedies though, so if anyone has had good success with them I would love to hear more!

I think you have to go through arthritis yourself to fully understand the awful pain it causes and it can make life totally miserable.

I hope you get some results from your search for a homeopathic or herbal remedy! but remember it takes time for it to have some good results and you will need to persevere in the begining.

:) :D
