i have applied to get my own breeding affix from the kennel club how long does it usually take to process? there were 5 or 6 choices but I only had 3 in mind so I just filled in the top 3 which were required, is that OK? or are you supposed to choose more than that?

It is sometimes incredibly difficult to think of a unique word, unless you come up with one as an anagram of your family or dogs names. In my own case it was my 5th choice that was accepted by the Kennel Club. I know somebody who had to submit over 30 words before she got one accepted. The KC do their best to keep things as quick as possible, and once your application is in the system, as it is now, almost all the rest can be done over the phone. However once your unique word has been accepted, it has to be published in the Kennel Gazette, and now I see in the dog press, for any objections to be lodged.

Good luck,
Dawn R.

My best friends put in the first six got them all turned down and the KC rang them up and they still had to find another 3 before they got one.  I am lucky I got my first choice :)

Affixes........ Bit of mystery to me! I wanted to have Tythrop as that was where I lived. I was told I was not allowed to have it. Then a little under two years later a lady moved into the nearby village and applied for Tythrop and guess what? She got it!
I had Foxpath instead, name came from the fact that I had a lady fox who used to use by my garden as an escape route in the winter from the hunt and spent the summer sunbathing on the end of the garden path!

Hi,  I've just applied for an affix as well and it's only been a week for the paperwork to come back.  However I did it online and chose 6 names, thinking that my first choice would be availabe!  I had already paid £10 for an affix directory and there was one other name similar to the affix I wanted.  The directory is dated 2002 and I bought a pup 10 months ago and was able to choose her KC name, so she has the actual name as I want to use as an affix in her KC name!!!

My husband rang today and was told that there had to be a variation of at least 3 characters between names.  I wish I had rung about the affix as the one I have actually been given was a last minute decision and I'm not happy with it.  I will have to ring them tomorrow and discuss it and see how easy it would be to change the name.  Does anyone know if I can change it now that they have sent me the paperwork?
