...makes us relise it really IS comming!!! So what did you all think about it? I thought it was quite nice, though didn't see the need for the champion stakes final and frank kane telling us about his fav dogs but still.....Has made me all excited and smile after a bad day at a show :)

I only caught a glimpse as my daughter decided to cut her own hair :D  I saw the bouvier des flandres judge, couldn't help but smile at her comment on people phoning and mentioning howmuch they liked her dogs etc She came across like a lovely lady but (cynic that I am) I just can't believe you can be involved in the breed and not have a preference in lines or loyalties to certain fractions of the breed community.
I missed Frank Kane bit but did have lunch with him once where he raved about american cockers.

oh yes another think Frank Kane mentiond was "will see this gordon in the gundog group" Is he implying who's going BOB in Gordons their? I hope not!!!!
Yes even I have my type in different breeds I own and don't own! I will always prefere a "type" and a "line" Normally your own or where your foundations came from! :)

I also caught the part where they talked about english breeds under threat, I was very surprised at the breeds listed. It's quite scarey. We spend alot of time worrying that people are over breeding, it's never really occurred to me that we had endangered breeds. :(

Oh we had split second of dad and one of our red and whites on there!!! :D And my dad's foot for about 5 seconds!! :confussed: Anyway My dad missed but think now everytime the phones rings it's someone wanting his autograph!

:D

I knew that we had a few but as we have quite a few Curly Coats and Dandies around this area I was shocked to see that they were two of the breeds.

I know. The Kerry Blue surprised me as did the other terriers and ditto the dandie

And the gordon suprised me!

Could you imagine no more bloodhounds? :( They are so characteristic. Hopefully when Crufts report further on the issue it will help promote the breeds (to the right people). Makes me wonder if instead of having a code of ethics regarding litters per bitch, there'll come a day where it'll be per breed.

Well I for one am GLAD we (bloodhounds) are under threat re: numbers....we have had no decrease in numbers for over a decade & considering how many still come into rescue :( I think our numbers are about right for a breed that is somewhat unsuitable to most peoples domestic arrangements. I dread the thought of getting more publicity & encouraging people to breed :(

I adore bloodhounds and Im going tomorrow to have a sneaky look at them,I cant have one
due to room but they are beautiful.
What class you in so I can cheer you on.

No need to be sneaky carolyn :) Come over & say hello!!! I have Ch. M. Thankful in open dog and F. Gravity in a bitch class.......come & have a slobbery hug (them, not me!) :)

I think stable low numbers [providing there is enough for a healthy gene pool] would be great Sam, but it gets worrying when the numbers keep dropping so that the very viability of the breed is threatened, in Dandies it is now down to about 70 pups registered a year which is clearly insufficient.

i thik if our regsitraions wereslowly to rise and settle between 200 and 300 a year and the same proportion of new exhibitors joined the ranks I think we could go longer without breeding ourselves into a corner every two or 3 generations.

The Dandie are down to very low numbers being bred annually, things are now at the stage that the breed club are advising if you have a healthy bitch to consider breeding from her even if she is not a particularly good example just to keep things ticking over. I blame the threat to these breeds on the interest in getting the very latest thing from abroad which I sometimes think is based on the improved chances on being "someone" in a breed when you have got one of the earliest examples.

So instead of breeding or wanting Labradoodles why don't people go into Curlies, or if they want smaller Irish Water????
Now here is a thought these two breeds should be renamed Standard Labradoodle (Curly Coated Retriever) and Mianture Labradoodle (Irish Water Spaniel).
If my own breed were British then it would easily be in the endangered breed category with Registrations around 120 pups annually.
Maybe Crufts should do what many overseas countries do and at all the big shows have a Parade of National breeds in the Big Ring.

Well apparently thats kinda of what they're planning to do. A parade of endangered British breeds in the ring...if I heard right :D (daughter having hair scare-see above)

the vunrable breeds had a parade at crufts, so I guess will do at crufts aswell!!!
I just get worried it will get the wrong message out to the wrong people (rare = lot of money) :(
At the same time we need the breeds to be recornised and people to have an intrest so they carry on! :)

There is not much danger of Dandies, at least, being adopted as a money spinner, they are quite difficult to get into whelp and litters are very small.

Well, My GSD was on there for about 5 seconds.....................

did anyone see the woman who uses her border collies for flyball she cuts my hair lol shes a really nice woman aswell i was watching the crufts preview last night its really emotional well that might just be me cause im really sad lol but just watching all the dogs enjoying themselves and that i realy wana do it aswell lol either use codey for flyball or get a husky for show
Dont know about the rest of you but I got the impression the Beeb are trying to make this more apealing to the people who are really interested in this namely dog folk instead of focusing on the presenters. I didnt see all of it but will do later but it looks like if you press red on the sky button you will be able to get the results which could be handy for those who dont have access to the computer network like us lucky folk.
And dont you lot start getting at Frank Kane the man should be knighted :):):)

I'm not getting at him, just mearly stateing! :D I think his a lovely man, was having a nice chat with him at a show earlier this year! But still what he said was....I interpreted it as....lets go down the bookies! :D

I thought it was presented excellently this time by Clare Balding.
Dawn.
...and wasn't Percy (Clare Balding's little puppy) a real sweetie ?! :)

Yes he was sooo cute. and I think she really presented it well, she wasn't "mememememememe" she was "dogs dogs dogs dogs dogs" which was nice, she blenned in the background, past few years I have felt it has been the aim of crufts is just another TV break for the presenters and they need to look as stunning and out do everything! Clare was really good, normal, down to earth and made it enjoyable, JMO
I was only joking ice_queen - I just happen to think he is the best judge in the whole wide world. :)

Have you shown with him judging by any chance? He is a very nice man. ....but like Rox, I'm down the bookies:D

I think T-T-S has had a good place under him in the past...what did you get and where, I know your dieing to spill all!!!!
Now what gave you that idea? Yes he did very well for me. He gave Tigger her first ticket at a record entry for the breed from the lower classes and also the open stakes at BUBA not to mention shortlisting Thomas in the puppy stakes from a entry of 86 dogs. Do you think this might be why he is known as the voice of god in my house :) :) :)

Well done to you!!!!!!! Can perfectly understand :D

Has anyone that watched this voted for their choice in the Hero Dog of the Year? Must admit I have but also that I'm biased as I know one of them, Mandy the trailhound :D
Not sure why but I was getting quite emotional watching the preview, I'm just getting so excited about going to Crufts and I'm not even showing!
The group of people the followed around Discover Dogs are people from my town, I get to see their little Lagotto every day, she's such a sweetie.
My friend managed to get in the clip where they were all petting the Toller, lucky, I want to be on tv with a Toller!
percy was sooo cute
cant wait till tomorrow
