Hi, I have a 14 month old Golden Retriever, however his tail was shut in the door, and he consequently had to go into surgery having 2 inches cut off. I like to enter him into breed and novelty shows, however I was just wondering if having a tail 2 inches shorter would affect the judges decision when judging him.
thankyou in advance for any replies

Hi guest. Have you notified the kennel club about his accident? I have a bitch that had to have half of her tail removed due to an over exuberant mother whilst still a few days old. So long as you have a letter of approval from the kennel club, which you should have with you at all shows, you can still show your dog. Chloe didn't suffer too greatly, but then my breed, Large Munsterlander, can have part of their tail removed. I don't think you would take top honours, but you never know.

You can still show in exemption/companion shows with a damaged tail ( you won't need to inform the KC)
I wouldn't think at these fun shows it would make much difference at all
Have fun
