I have a 5 1/2 year old bassitt hound (Florence) who up till about 3 weeks ago loved to go for a walk and would often walk anything up to 5 miles a day.  Just recently however I have had a job getting her to walk even a mile.  She gets slower and slower until finally coming to a halt.  On the return journey she has to go on her lead and hangs back all the time.  All her joints seem fine and she hasn't any lumps or bumps hindering her, she isn't puffed out, she just seems uninterested in walking.  I also have a 10 year old Labrador who has bags of energy who comes with us for our walk.  Can anyone please give me any ideas as to whats going on or has my bassit hound become a lazy bones.

Thank you
Dawn

I am assuming she is fit and lean?  I would have her heart checked out as excersise intolerance can be a sign of trouble here.  Also an under active Thyroid will make a dog lethargic, and this was what alerted my freidn to both her dobe bitches problems which improved dramatically when the correct siloxine dose was established.

Yes she is fit and lean,I have kept her weight down (30 kg) as she does tend to eat/pinch everything in sight if I don't stop her before hand.  I did think that if it was her heart that she would be panting but she isn't doing this so hopefully this isn't the case.

Didn't think of the bovious with a long backed dog, could she have done something to her back????  Canine chiropractors (heard Mctimony ones are best??) can do wonders.

That could be possible as she did tread on her one of her ears whilst in full flight and went head over heals a few weeks back. (just remembered that).  She does tend to do this and maybe she has injured herself previously.

Thank you
