                My husband and I have a little cavalier pup called Toby, he is very good at doing his business outside, ocassionally he will have an accident in the house. I have noticed recently that sometimes I can smell dog pee in the house even though I have moped. Can anyone tell me what to use to clean up that will kill the smell.

Biological soap powder in hot water and then a rub down with some white spirit usually does the trick :) And remember if he can still smell where he's been going indoors, it will make him keep going back to do it again in the same spot.

Disinfectants (such as Detol) that go white in water contain ammonia based chemicals that are so similar to urine that they can encourage the dog to repeat mark, so are not advised :(

I KNOW BIOLOGICAL SOAP AND WATER IS GOOD BUT SOMETIMES SOMETHING ELSE IS REQUIRED TO REMOVE THE SMELL THIS WORKS GREAT!!

I have used many products over the years and spent a small fortune on them, but I still advocate bio washing powder for stain removing and odour removing, if done properly. "a fool and his money are easily parted" comes to mind :)

actually this product DOES WORK biological soap is good too but sometimes you need a little help!it probably depends on whether you mind how much your home smells.
I havent used this site for very long I thought it was to give each other advice but if people are going to argue over miniscule things then I dont think I'll waste my time in future.

Not arguing Starryeyes :) Just stating my personal experience, thats all. Your post is a little on the defensive side, not mine, you have taken it the wrong way :) It's your decision as to whether you want to "waste your time in future" :)

I am very cynical when it comes to "wonder cleaning" products and as I've been around the block a few times, regarding cleaning up dog mess, I tend to stick to what works best and makes my home clean, unfortunately my house does smell of "dogs", (not dog mess though) but thats the price most dog owners pay for having them :P

it's not easy to avoid being defensive when someone comes back at you with a phrase like that when all the poster was trying to do was offer an alternative suggestion that they honestly believe works well for them :(

I have used the product Starryeyes recommended and have to say that Biological washing powder is both much much cheaper and more effective, my carpets are smell free (used washing powder in the Vax ;)  and so is my kitchen floor :)

I too have used this product starryeyes and I think it's great to. I'd rather spend money on that than a new carpet.

I'm not being sarcastic.......honest! But I think it's a bit petty to make an issue out of something this minor, people have differing opinions all the time on these boards, but I take them with a pinch of salt, It is easy avoiding being defensive because if somebody wants to be picky and overly sensitive for the sake of it, I ignore them :D The phrase "different strokes for different folks" comes to mind :)  I see no reason to thank people everytime they agree with me either ;)

Really?  So why the bold print, paraphrasing (again :rolleyes: ) and making reference to someone else acknowledging a courtesy?

When I have phrased things poorly or inadvertently caused offence I think an apology is more appropriate - doesn't have to be a big deal, merit grovelling etc just an "Oops" or similar followed with a smiley.

As an ongoing thread is highlighting far more vehemently than me, it's very easy to misinterpret what people mean on a board and equally easy to reply in such a way as to sound dismissive and, frankly, rude (I'm no saint and admit being guilty of both ) Manners cost nothing and accusing people of being picky or over sensitive particularly over the phrase you used is IMO at best naive  :(
